Production Update! 6.15.20

Hello valued patrons, and thank you for being here through our first major milestone - the theme song's completion! As we've promised before, you and only you have access to the background art for whatever non-commercial use you may fancy (folder attached!).

We also wanted to thank you all for your support, which we have passed on not only to our voice talent but to the musician who made our original theme song for us. Getting to compensate him more for his amazing effort was all thanks to you!

Now onto this week's progress:

- The theme song's release went well, and we were thrilled with the responses we got on facebook, newgrounds, reddit, twitter, and youtube. Some comments inspired us to make a few changes, and there were some small design decisions made during the theme song as well that we'd like to lay out.
        1. Made Pogey No-Leg's boot pointy to match the other characters
        2. Removed the circles on Orpho's jacket buttons for easier animating
        3. Plan to make Orpho's smile pointy instead of ovular to distance his similarities to the 'CalArts' style and Steven Universe (we were aware of the similarities going in, and while unplanned we didn't mind them since this is a satire of cartoons and the characters themselves act and sound very different. Still, Steven isn't really one of the shows covered by the satire's message, and there's no reason to look like it, even if unintentional.)
        4. Removing the VHS filter from audio as poor audio isn't a sign of 80/90's cartoons so much as it is old VHS', and since we have quality audio to work with we'd be cheating ourselves not to take advantage of it!
So nothing dramatic, but we wanted your backseat in the production process to be as inclusive as possible!

- Audio Update: We have all of our characters compiled and their lines pulled, so the next few days will be spent assembling the audio for all 10 episodes to see if lines are missing (already found a couple we left out!) and if conversations are cohesive.

- Episode 1 Update: We have 1/7 pages storyboarded, which means we can begin creating the background art for them! Our goal is to have episode 2 storyboarded as we finish the bg art for episode 1, then start 2's art while roughing 1's animation.

- Schedule Update: Two months into the project, we are two weeks behind on our projected timeline, but considering we forgot to devote days for working with the voice actors or breaking the script down for each of their lines, we're still very optimistic about staying on track for the future!

- Book Update: 40% written, 20% art completed, and the special prequel book well into the outline phase. Pumpkin Kid's origin, Magic Dad's past, and more slowly come to life on the page!

And with that, we plunge into the show itself. Thank you all for having faith in us as we assemble the story and work hard to get it to you!

Have any questions about the show, our creative process, the video games we play in our down time, or anything else? Email us at thewestpatch@gmail.com and we'll answer them all at the end of the month!

Comments

It's premiere - and it intimidates me too lol

Your timeline (Premiere? Vegas?) is also extremely intimidating.

Steph

I accidentally hit enter, and it wouldn’t let me edit the original post. I also meant to add that it looks AMAZING!
