Hi there! I'm so excited that you reacted to Halsey! I joined Patreon to watch Taylor Swift videos (which are amazing, thank you), but Halsey is so close to my heart for their song writing. Listening to these amazing artists, it's easy to see that Taylor and Halsey are so similar. Taylor is the pen queen but Halsey is a metaphor killer! I grew up with Taylor, and all of her feelings matched with what I was going through, and I love her for that. But I discovered Halsey in my 20s and they told me the truth that I did not want to hear. This album really kills me because it reveals all of the faults that you (the listener) might have. I appreciate the anxiety, depression, self-doubt impressions we get from this album that are also delivered with hard-core production. Thesis: Taylor is for us who like to feel seen, but Halsey is for us who never really left their emo phase

2021-09-06 11:20:17 +0000 UTCthe "boys were boys" lyric in The Tradition is basically referring to how when guys act on their impulses re: unwanted sexual advances/abuse towards women its often excused as "boys will be boys" attitude and shifts the blame back onto the women, blaming them for things like them wearing "slutty" clothing, or saying she was asking for it etc. basically a fuck you to the double standards and complete lack of accountability for mens wrongdoings in society... which then turns back to the chorus of "ask for forgiveness never permission".... that its always an excuse and explained away, instead of getting consent!... its "in their blood and this is tradition"... this excuse is not a new thing...its been in favour of men for as long as we can remember. when you go back and listen to this song as a whole with this perspective in mind, every lyric is impactful since she paints the picture from the very beginning (sorry, that was a long winded analysis, but the genius of this song hits hard for me...)

2021-09-06 10:14:10 +0000 UTCfun fact: the nine inch nails guys are also very high regarded for scoring movies, they've won a couple oscars for it, which ties more into how well the music production in the iichliwp film was; they did Pixar's Soul, Gone Girl, The Social Network, basically a bunch of David Fincher films.. i think they're definitely more industrial than a "heavy" rock band which is why Halsey was able to keep her trap, pop influence and roots on a lot of the tracks
