Blackpink - The Album | Full Album Reaction

this one was a bit tough

Comments

I wholeheartedly feel you I was soooo frustrated with money like the beats amazing great dancing but imagine if they would have let her actually have meaning in her rap lyrics other than talking about money and twerking like I love her she’s so talented but they waste it. Like lalisa at least had some meaning but the dancing in that song was so disappointing because she’s the MAIN dancer and even jisoo and rosè solo dance was better then Lisa’s. She’s literally known for being a fantastic dancer anyways it’s just really sad to see all her talent wasted.

Shavani

Hey can you try Dreamcatcher (kpop meets rock), and ateez

Juan Otero

Their emotional songs are few and even those ones are very surface level. They just don't have that feminist image their fans push on them 🤷‍♀️

Raven

you only focused on such songs with what you call shallow and bragging lyrics but in their discography you will find empowering messages in a lot of their songs love to hate me, kill this love, lovesick girls, stay, playing with fire, tally etc there are a lot of songs with amazing meaning and telling females to stay strong and powerful so yes blackpink does have music that is both empowering women and showing off what they got im not saying that part is wrong i just hate when people make it seem like their main focus is bragging when in reality blackpink does more than just that they also have emotional songs

Lenajah Madison

+1, I don’t really get empowered by lyrics such as “i’m not like the other girls”

Maya

I dont really agree with the statement of blackpinks music being empowering to women. honestly alot of their stuff just feels shallow and like bragging. and sound wise aswell I could just never really get into their stuff.

Raven

You summed up what I think about Blackpink perfectly at the end. They are capable of so much. I am not a Blink, but I watched their documentary and found them adorable, hardworking, and talented. They have the same kind of chosen family vibe that BTS has. This was my first listen to the entire album. I agreed with you on everything except "look at you, now look at me". I think that's a diss worth repeating. hehe

FlyUshkiFly

I think Jennie's song "Solo" might warm you up to her. It's a bop to me, anyway.

FlyUshkiFly

Thank you very much for your review; I really liked it. It's sad that some songs didn't appeal to you, but that's normal. However, it's evident that many of the comments come from haters. I understand some of their points, but others simply insult the girls in subtle words, calling them "models." I respect that Blackpink's style may not be for everyone, as it involves some unique noises that may take time to get used to. But when it comes to the criticism about their songs not making sense or not being written by themselves, it feels strange to me. While it's true that YG doesn't always give Blackpink the credit they deserve, the girls are actively involved in the music and visuals, contributing ideas and writing lyrics. Maybe they aren't as involved as some other artists in their music, but dismissing their efforts seems unjust. Do people really think all K-pop idols or pop artists write their own songs? "Pretty Savage" and "Love to Hate Me" are responses to the haters, and "You Never Know" is a beautiful song that conveys the message that despite attempts to destroy them, they will persevere. Admittedly, their lyrics may not be as poetic as those of some other groups, and they often explore the theme of love and empowerment, but what's wrong with that? Many artists do the same, yet Blackpink seems to face more criticism for it. As for the claim that their songs feel written by men and that Teddy should stop producing for them, I'm sure most wouldn't even notice if a man or a woman wrote the songs; this point is often brought up by haters. Teddy has been like a father figure to Blackpink, supporting them from day one, and without him, Blackpink wouldn't be Blackpink. Despite the criticism, the success of these girls, filling stadiums and breaking records, will continue to be undeniable. Blackpink has already left its mark on music and fashion, regardless of those who choose to ignore it. I remember back in 2018, after a long wait, they released "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du," and everyone was excited, even people who weren't fans. When the song came out and broke records, it seemed like everyone was talking about them. I recall even non-fans giving it a listen. BLACKPINK's potential was evident, and they were everywhere. The world had its eyes on them. However, it was precisely at that point that some individuals felt intimidated and decided to stop them. This turned into a continuous cycle of hatred that still exists today, with some K-pop fans expressing animosity towards BLACKPINK. I truly hope that the girls renew their contracts with more favorable terms for them. However, if they decide to go their separate ways, I'll feel both sad and happy. Sad because I'll miss their presence together, but happy because I know they'll be a little more free from the continuous hatred and criticism from people.

Maay

This is what really irritates me about their label. They are wasting four very talented women with lyrics like "it’s a bird it’s a plane ratatata". The same producer and writer keeps making them sing the same songs with very similar beats and formula. Rosé sounds amazing and can sing her butt off and Lisa really makes terrible lyrics sound good with her rapping abilities. I really hope if they resign their contract with their label that they are allowed to have more input in their future music.

H

I was frustrated with Lisa's solo tracks too. She's objectively the swaggiest female rapper in all of kpop and the tracks they gave her were so mindless and trend-chasing mid-level.

claena

yess he has to check out impurities by them!

signe !

Bev did check Antifragile in the march custom requests! But I would love a full album reaction as well

Giu Bressani

really appreciate you all being so civil and kind in your responses ♥️

I used to listen to a lot of Blackpink back when they debuted in 2016 and was a fan till around 2018. This is a group that has so much potential and the girls are great but it seems are being held back a lot by their agency. One of the main reasons I stopped listening to them is that single after single they were basically all the same structure and song. Every release I knew exactly what to expect and nothing was surprising or interesting anymore which is a major bummer imo. I really wish they could be able to do more stuff, and work with different producers because honestly, how many Teddy drops can we handle... This album was a huge letdown. I was looking forward to seeing what they would do, excited that they would finally be releasing an album for it to have just a few songs and with a few exceptions, is all too similar to past releases. I really hope they can find more freedom in the future and maybe be away from YG and experiment with what they want. Their solos have been ok. I liked Rose's a lot even though that was the project I was least expecting. Jisoo's was also good. Lisa's however...really frustrating imo. She is hella talented though and I'm still looking forward to seeing what they will do in the future.

Liuzetz

Oh yes, they are great!

Liuzetz

My problem with most of their songs is that they feel like a man wrote them will imagining what a badass woman would say.. so it really doesn’t feel like girl power if like XG for example. Its more of an im better that you feel. Imo, if let loose, the things rosie would do or if the members were aloud to lean more into their strengths, it would be iconic. But as of now, a majority just comes off as shallow and repetitive

Kasapo Mwanza

Please check out Lesserafim.. I would like to see how you feel about their music!!!

Kasapo Mwanza

I’m pretty sure the born skinny bitch was meant to be directed at a bunch of people being horrible about Lisa’s weight and how she was too skinny. And I like to interpret the rest as hyping up girls in general. I do however, really don’t like the line they do in type girl ‘I’m not like these other girls at all’ so I get your point

Violet

I like their debut album the most with songs like see you later and really

Hafsa

i listen to BP very occasionally, i'm not a big fan of the term pick me girls but a lot of their music has that vapid energy unfortunately (born skinny bitch, look at you now look at me, im that typa girl etc etc) and they have such a small discography for how long they've been in the business because they're too busy being brand ambassador models tbh. rosie has a great voice and lisa is a great dancer, i think they work better to their own strength and solo projects. also glad to see you liked lovesick girls thats probably the one song i really love of theirs

Vanessa

please please please PLEASE react to their netflix documentary called light up the sky!!! i think you’ll really enjoy it.

sav

listening to their music makes me feel confident in my own skin and empowered 🖤🩷 i don’t care what the haters say i love these girls and as long as they love the music they make, and so do their fans, that’s all that matters to me.

sav

Lovesick Girls is my absolute fave song from the album. Rosé always really stands out to me vocally. I'd love to hear more from her.

Rianne R

I could go on a whole rant about these girls and their music but I’m sure it would be anything anyone else hasn’t already said. Love them and don’t dislike any of their songs, but am sad they don’t seem to be allowed to be more. Can’t fully connect with them because of it. I loveeee Rosé’s voice. I would absolutely love an album from her where she gets full creative control.

chimelle6

these women are so talented... wish theyd have the freedom to make their own music or at least have the chance to show their creativity and ideas.

donna

I share your frustration with these girls. They are very enamored with their producer Teddy. But they are so talented, I often wonder if I'd like their albums more if they got out from under him and worked with someone who would draw out more of what the girls want to say and let their creativity shine instead of his. (But then... yeah. It's not like their bank accounts are suffering under his guidance, so that's just me being selfish about what I like musically.) Overall, I've liked all of their solo work better than their group work. Jennie's song "Solo" is pretty great. I'm sure someone will put it in your custom requests eventually (if they haven't yet). "Kill That Love" was a great anthem song when it came out, but that and "Lovesick Girls" were the last times I dropped one of their songs onto a playlist, sadly.

claena

you should also dive into Lisa’s solos stuff. She has two single called Money and LaLisa . They’re bangerz! she was definitely the most anticipated solo project from the group and she ate.

scarlet Vasquez

please react to them singing “sure thing” by Miguel. They covered it and it really dives more into their individual stunning vocals , especially from Jennie. It’s an acoustic version , it’s so good!
