2024-07-03 04:37:37 +0000 UTCI love this film so much. Got me crying all over again. The sequel is going to be so amazing to see these emotions as Riley ages! Another Pixar film you should definitely put on your list is 'Elemental'! Beautiful film through and through too!

2023-11-15 02:59:13 +0000 UTCi struggle with depression and always felt so sick of my own sadness and wanted it to go away...and then my medication made it all sort of fade and i realized i actually missed feeling my emotions. i feel like this movie's message of "sadness" being as crucial as the other emotions is so important for kids AND adults to understand.

2023-11-13 16:18:33 +0000 UTCCommenting this cuz you also react to music, but what really gets me is how deep and comforting the sound was when Sadness finally presses the button on the board, and in complete contrast, how light and hopeful the sound was when Joy presses it afterwards. It really feels like a weight has been lifted off my chest.

2023-11-13 06:07:51 +0000 UTCI get teary eyed at many points in the film, but Bing Bong’s sacrifice always unleashes the waterfall of tears. I was obsessed with this movie when I was in high school and it helped me understand myself better. The writing is just phenomenal and the story is deeply relatable to audiences of all ages. I am so glad you reacted to this. Thank you for opening up about learning to embrace your own sadness.

2023-11-13 01:08:55 +0000 UTCI love this as well. I remember reading an article when this movie came out about how Riley’s emotions are mixed genders, while her mom’s emotions are all female and her dad’s emotions are all male. Some theorized this could foreshadow Riley having gender dysphoria when she gets older.

2023-11-13 01:00:39 +0000 UTCanxiety is going to be one of the emotions in the sequel!!and they’re played by maya hawke aka robin from stranger things! also my therapist actually brought up this movie in my last session saying they did consult with real mental health experts!

2023-11-12 22:05:12 +0000 UTCLove this movie! Such a great introduction to mental health for kids. Can't wait for the sequel! You should react to Elemental. It was so good and has a lot of deeper themes too. I think Pixar's goal is always to see how many times they can make the audience cry lol

2023-11-12 21:04:21 +0000 UTCI think it’s so cool how this movie has given people the vocabulary to express and communicate complicated otherwise feelings and concepts! Also I have a very specific memory of this movie from when I was a teenager in secondary school (middle school in the US?) - **trigger warning I guess? just don’t read the first paragraph the rest is fine :)** My secondary school had a concerning amount of problems with mental health related things (bullying, alot of s*lf-h*rm, yearly s**cides, ext..). So instead of actually providing resources or support, a couple times a year they would do assemblies with entire year groups/grades about well-being. In one of these we had to watch Inside Out. I remember had already seen it at some point when I was a couple years younger and couldn’t remember enjoying it so being a teenager I felt like just sitting in silence and watching a movie with about 100 kids plus teachers would be boring and pointless. However watching the movie for the first time after childhood had “ended” in a room full of adolescents, most of whom keep all their emotions and worries locked away with little to no way of communicating or expressing them, was a completely different experience. Usually when watching or doing anything in school there would be constant chatting, people messing about, getting told off, laughing and just general teenage chaos. Watching this movie, the energy in that room couldn’t be described as anything other than heavy. The entire hall was silent, especially throughout the second half of the movie. I remember my friends sitting either side of me and I was trying not to cry but not wanting to draw any attention to myself I just stared at the back of the seat in front of me. Nobody was talking or even looking at each other, everyone was just sitting still either with their eyes on the screen or just staring at the floor. There were a few that did end up getting visibly emotional but nobody talked about it. Even though it was obvious that everyone was feeling similarly, still nobody wanted or knew how to talk about it so they just… didn’t? The way I described it seems like a lot but the memory isn’t sad, I just think it vividly captures the weird specific emotional dynamics with teenagers / adolescents.

2023-11-12 20:55:49 +0000 UTCI do really love how smart and wonderful this movie is kind of making joy the villain if she had just let Riley be sad in the beginning. A lot of that wouldn't have happened and that is like us. If we just stop trying to force ourselves to be happy and let the sadness in when it comes, we can avoid a lot of problems like anger and fear taking over and I sob for at least 30 minutes every time bing bong goes away because we have to grow up and let some things go and that's always sad to think about

2023-11-12 19:35:31 +0000 UTCOne of the things I think is really cool is that Joy is in charge in Riley's head, but when we enter mom & dad's head, they have a different hierarchy. Anger is running things for the dad, and Fear is in charge for mom. It really showcases how different people process their emotions, and even though we all have the full spectrum, different people have different emotions at the forefront of most of their interactions.

2023-11-12 18:33:06 +0000 UTCthe “forget it jake, it’s cloud town” line is a reference to the ending line of the 1974 film chinatown - i never got the reference until i watched chinatown in a college film class. i just know the writer who thought of that bit was so proud of themself haha
