2024-11-28 16:38:48 +0000 UTC"The season" or the social season, is actually the official name for the period of the year when British nobility and socialites would leave their country(side) homes and head to London to engage in social events like balls, charity events and in politics (bc pretty much everyone with political power was nobility so politics had to be done when they were all in town and not far of in the countryside). It would happen in the spring and summer and everyone would be in London and then leave for their lavish mansions and castles for autumn and winter. The practice started to fade post world war one. Also! As seen in bridgerton, young women making their debut on the marriage market did in fact go to see the queen at the palace and were presented to her. This went on until 1958!!!!! when queen Elizabeth II abolished the practice.

2024-11-28 01:02:19 +0000 UTCIt actually is specifically NOT her real accent- yes Nicola is Irish but she is from Galway which is a softer accent and more neutral (as she herself describes it) and the accent she choose to do it more of a Dublin accent which "sounds more Irish" than her normal accent. If you're not into accents, or not Irish, its an easy mistake to make but I find it to be so funny that she was asked to do an Irish accent and specifically chose to not do her own
