on first watch it was definitely like eh about new characters but i also never really cared for lucas and peyton much so i stayed for brooke nathan and haley. now on the millionth rewatch i love the new characters clay quinn alex, so it takes time to warm up them i guess

That's in big part because Chad and Hilarie are gone but I think it's also because we don't feel as connected to the setting/community. The first few seasons focus on these kids with huge dreams living normal lives but by this point in the series the characters seem larger than life. In the first time jump we kept a bit of connection with Haley and Lucas teaching at the high school and the introduction of characters like Q and Sam, but the new characters here don't tether us to the community or ground us in any way. Season 6 finale was written to be a series end just in case, so the show had to shift focus to what happens after your dreams come true.

2025-10-22 13:18:09 +0000 UTCAll right, so at the time, we were told that Chad and Hilarie left due to contract negotiations, but after everything that came out with Schwahn and the BTS stuff, Hilarie left mainly due to that and they didn’t want to keep Chad around. And the reason behind Dan and Rachel is because she only agreed to come back if she would be in scenes with Paul since she knew Schwahn wouldn't do anything with Paul around. Did they have to be married? Probably not, but its an interesting dynamic. I enjoy the final three seasons. As much as the first six? No, but they have their own thing going for them. I also enjoy the characters of Quinn and Clay, and I hope you do too as they grow. And oh, wow I forgot how Alex was introduced. What a character. And I hate to burst your bubble, but the guy who plays the homeless man is not the same guy who plays Eddie Winslow (who is currently in trouble with the law). I don't know if you've seen The Blind Side, but the homeless man plays a character in that movie. Can't wait to see the next upload! 😃

2025-10-22 06:25:36 +0000 UTCThese first two episodes are a bit shaky imo, but like you said they basically ended the show and then got renewed and had to find a way to keep going. As you and others in the comments said the previous finale feels like a great way to end the show, but I wasn’t mad it came back. While I was very sad to lose Lucas and Peyton from the show and everything Chad and Hilarie brought to those characters and the show in general, Brooke has always been my favorite character and I was glad to be getting more of her. When you started season 5 I mentioned that it felt like a spinoff of the og show, and this is kind of a similar situation. It’s the same characters for the most part, but it’s new stories with a bit of different vibe the way 5 and 6 had a different vibe from 1-4. And there are some really good stories that come from these seasons.

2025-10-22 03:48:55 +0000 UTCSo the scene with Millie and her assistant at the beginning of the first episode is pretty much the same as the scene she has with Brooke at the beginning of Season Five after the time jump. Of course, Millie was the assistant at that point, not the boss. The actress who plays Quinn was also in the shows The Boys and For All Mankind. I sort of forgot how disgusting Alex's character was when they first introduced her. I'm interested to see what your reaction to her will be as things progress. I love the way Brooke and Julian have each other's backs with their respective parents. I personally have no problem with the way Julian confronted Victoria in season 6. She'd treated Brooke like gum under her shoe her entire life up to that point, and Julian could see the kind of effect that had on Brooke.

Murray stated that the network did not want to bring him back for season 7, reportedly to save money, while Burton's exit was also complicated by BTS issues and a difficult work environment with showrunner Mark Schwahn. The show was not the same without them.
