Break for Feedback
Added 2023-11-05 18:11:01 +0000 UTCI'm sorry to do this, but I guess I went overboard with those four chapters yesterday. I know missing a day is bad, but I figured that moving forward with not fully baked chapters is worse. The normal schedule should resume tomorrow and we will get into monster fusion stuff I've been waiting a long time to include.
But since we're here, I want to take today to give some general info and solicit feedback.
Chapters 1 through Chapter 113 are what I've imagined as the first real arc of the story and the first book. The next ~100 chapters will be the second, and I intend to continue in that format if the readers are here for it. Book 1 establishes the world, Kai's powers, the heights of the setting, and the true stakes of the monster incursions.
Book 2 will take Kai and Zae Zin Nim into new territory and have a different sort of arc. Kai will move from grasping his power to mastering the deeper rules. Won't spoil much more than that. During this arc, there won't be much opportunity to return to Goralia, but it will return later in the series. Obviously we'll eventually get back to the Frontier once Kai has the power to learn more.
Everybody reading along so far, what are you looking forward to in this story? The core cast will always be moving forward into new lands, but would you prefer we see more of the previous supporting cast? There won't be much reason to return to Monskon City in the near future, but the supporting characters could easily play a greater role in the story via travel or a new home city. This is a point where your opinions could influence the series substantially, so speak up.
In any case, the plan is to keep focusing on daily chapters while I can keep it up. Thanks for your support.

2023-11-18 19:54:54 +0000 UTCHey, sorry I somehow missed this comment before. Didn't see it until I clicked after another one. You aren't the only one to feel the way you do. It's easy for power advancement to feel shallow and there are many who would dismiss this story out of hand on those grounds. I definitely intend to write various kinds of flavorings to this sort of advancement story and I hope they'll be things you enjoy. But in any case you definitely shouldn't feel reluctant to offer your two cents.

2023-11-18 19:53:35 +0000 UTCZZN has to be a mainstay in the foreseeable future. She's not only a fun character, but she plays off so well with Kai's personality. I don't know what your plans are for Juray, but if there's a character I'd love to see get more of a spotlight on, it's her. I realize it may be impractical though, considering Kai and ZZN's journey is only going to become more dangerous. But if it's in the cards, I'd really like for her to play a bigger role.

I think I am just affirming how you are already handling the budding romance when I say this, but I really enjoy their friendship, both the connecting and the challenging. I'll also add somewhat of a dissenting voice (but maybe it's not actually dissenting?) for the sake of variety: lately in my reading in general I've found myself not super into reading about the power progression of a character for the mere sake of progression. I trust an MC is going to get stronger, that's how these stories roll, and I love that. But I've found I get more drawn in when there are more things going on with a particular scene or battle than just growth or winning. And I don't really think it has to be a whole lot, or really even be that explicit. It could maybe even just be seeing the characters have fun as they discover new things about their powers? I'm not exactly sure. Am I making any sense? I don't want to give my two cents that are potentially unhelpful because they are vague. Also I want to strongly affirm that what I really want is for you to enjoy writing the story, even if a particular reader, like me, enjoys it less, because I feel like that's what is gonna sustain it over the long haul.

2023-11-06 13:15:35 +0000 UTCNo Raz planned for the near future, but consider your request received. You'll get more mechanics of Kai's unique powers very soon, and more on the overall system over time. As for pacing, feel free to comment and let me know how you feel about it as we move forward.

2023-11-06 04:21:21 +0000 UTCyeah, i’ll echo some other things i saw here, but i think focusing more on the mechanics of the magic system and going for a slower pace might be useful. i also really love Raz, so i hope we see more of him!
