Black Velvet and Silver Studs (Poem)

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to share poetry on here, so trying something different this time. Using an image makes my line space clear, but it's it's not accessible. So, I'm including the text below also. Also, this one is free, because I'm posting it up on social media. It's loaded with a lot of personal imagery about when i was a younger. Bonus points if you pick out the two bands I referenced.

Black Velvet and Silver Studs

by NightEyes Dayspring

In the dark, I cried out,

and no one came.

In the dark, I sought hope,

and I didn’t find it.

In the dark, I changed,

and then I was happy.

The dream of black velvet and silver studs,

it looks good against my white and brown fur.

The darker thoughts, sometimes they come out,

and in that night, I scratch at my pain.

The lost scent of clove cigarettes,

still clings in the back of my throat.

Incense is thick on the air,

and there is a wag in my tail.

Moonlight is the only form of sunlight,

that I wanted to see.

Grow up? I did,

but there is something about a black t-shirt.

And when the rust of October comes,

I’ll be there, under the moon’s spell.
