Really enjoyed your commentary. Whether you react here or not, you would really enjoy the film "Leave the World Behind." It's a very philosophical apocalypse story and artfully done. You'd have a field day with all of its layers. I won't spoil, but some props change with the mood/theme of the scenes (like paintings on the wall).

Cillian is such a good actor - that expression in his eyes when he is being told the woman and the girl are going to be used for breeding is spot on with a person who held onto to their humanity before and after the infection. (We all know that's its not all men - but some of them are like this with or without upheavals in society, like you said, and that's why we will choose a bear in the woods over a man - hands down. You'd be an exception. Bring lots of books, notebooks, and pens. We can have a writing session about the bears.) I really love your commentary on the infection serving as a metaphor for the infection of "lack of community" here. I'm a massive Walking Dead fan. Honestly, it's my comfort show (over Buffy). I literally need to fall asleep to it because it makes me feel safe. And I keep going back to this thought: Why is it that a gruesome horror show brings me comfort in the world we live in? And I think you touch on two points. The return to the primitive and infection as metaphor for lack of community. This idea if we strip back these systems that keep us from community and return to a time where the work we do has meaning and connects us with others around us. That is what life and humanity is supposed to be. I don't think I would want a return to the days of the Neanderthal, but a return to humanity. I haven't seen 28 Weeks later, but if you're gonna give it a reaction, I'll watch it before I watch your reaction. Cheers.

2025-01-29 21:20:20 +0000 UTCI remember I quite enjoyed this movie when I saw it in theater back in the days (oh I feel suddenly old) but I hadn't watch it in years. It was a pleasure to rediscover it again with you. As always I love your analysis here, especially the "hello" thing I totally missed at the time. The film's message is not revolutionary but it is well crafted and the actors did a good job. Concerning the military men, I am fairly certain that the "repopulate the earth" excuse was just that: an excuse. What they really want is to get laid and they obviously think consent isn't necessary anymore without society's laws. Pretty dark but I think pretty accurate of what happens in the world right now when people are in a society, a situation (for example wartime) or a status that allow them to ignore the existing laws. I am not certain a video for 28 weeks later is necessary. I don't remember the movie that well but it seems to me that it was not as good as the first one (maybe because Danny Boyle didn't direct it). But you should watch it if you're interested in seeing 28 years later which is set to be out in theaters in the next few months (and this time with Boyle as director). At last, I have a question. Do you take recommandation from all patreons or just from those at the maximum tier (or not at all) ? If you do, I have a few movies to suggest (mainly from Spain and Latin and South Americas' directors) that I think you will find interesting to analyze (and those are movies I think are masterpieces, not using the term lightly). Thanks for this video while waiting for another Buffy episode. Take care of yourself.
