2024-09-23 03:34:10 +0000 UTCThe first time I watched this film, I found it to be more terrifying than the first time I watched "Alien" (1979) or "The Thing" (1982). The character of Max Cady was like some sort of demon or a Michael Myers from "Halloween". It was chilling to hear Max speaking in tongues as he was slowly being pulled under the water.

2024-09-22 16:44:24 +0000 UTCFirst of all, Happy Birthday to you! Seems like this one left quite an impression on you. It is heavy. The best director-actor duo in Scorsese and De Niro in their prime combining for another banger. Scorsese was a big Alfred Hitchcock fan, and this film was an homage to him, especially the visuals. If you watch Vertigo (1958), you'll notice. De Niro truly transformed himself into a monster. Not only with the tattoos and putting on muscles, but he actually paid a dentist $5000 to have his teeth sharpened so he could look more scary. After filming, he paid another $20000 to have them restored to normal. The man is dedicated beyond belief. This is a remake of a 1962 film, which I won't spoil, but I much rather prefer this one. The lieutenant, Elgart, was played by Robert Mitchum who was the original Max Cady, and the lawyer that Cady hired was Gregory Peck, who was Sam Bowden in the original. So that's a pretty cool homage to the original. Steven Spielberg was supposed to direct this one, while Scorsese was gonna do 'Schindler's List'. I'd say that was one of the best trades in history!
