I'm pretty much just figuring out the lore of this world as I go - here I figured out how their names actually work. These people, whose world and culture and all still have no names, each belong to clans of common ancestry and heritage. Each clan takes the name of some bird, which forms the first half of the name of clan members. A person's actual name is the second half, which is usually a body part, feature, or quality that can in some way be related to the clan's bird. Members of the same clan refer to each other only by their personal name, not by the full two-part name. The full name is generally used only to refer to people of other clans, and relatives will rarely refer to each other by full name if absolutely necessary to distinguish between several people of the same personal name.

Technically there's nothing stopping people of the same clan having the same name at the same time, but I'm going to just pretend that's not a thing that happens. There is a pretty strong tradition of successive generations using the same names, though; the Sparrow clan leader, for example, is traditionally named Plume. The thirteenth and current Sparrowplume is Claw's paternal grandfather's brother.
