Jaycee's Blog - Sat, Dec 18

As mentioned in yesterday's entry, Priya's fourth wish was to read people's minds. From what she reported to me this morning, she took advantage of it to meet with her family and friends to see what they really thought of her. Her (traditional Chinese) mother was unsurprisingly disappointed with her not finishing a Master's Degree and becoming a businesswoman. Her (Canadian) father was proud of her, but a bit of a wimp and would align himself with her mother. Her younger siblings (two brothers and a sister still in college) all loved her very much.

It was her friends, she said, that shocked her the most. None but one of her male friend was genuinely interested in her feelings. They (like I had) kept fantasizing about going to bed with her. (The one that didn't was gay and thought of her as his little sister.) Her female friends all found tiny faults with her appearance—skin too yellow, eyes too slanted, hair too long, boobs too small, clothes too cheap, and so forth. That had shocked her and she quickly regretted having that ability. Unfortunately, she couldn't turn it off until it disappeared on its own at midnight.

No matter what she did or where she went, there were always people in the vicinity whose thoughts she could read. Whether it was walking outside in a park, eating at a restaurant, or shopping in a mall, she could always hear everyone's thoughts. She said it was shocking how much people thought of sex—sex they'd just had, were about to have, or were never gonna have but still fantasized about. She was often the subject of those sexual fantasies, which were more demeaning than arousing. Most of them were from men, but there were a few women in the lot as well.

Overall, she did not enjoy that ability. In fact, the last four days shook her tremendously. It had looked (to me) like she was really embracing this whole "faeries are real" reality, but it was actually much more traumatic than it first appeared.

This morning, for the last wish, she asked if her memory of the last few days could be wiped out and replaced with mundane activities she'd normally have done. The disappointment of everyone around her was crushing her. Add to that a reality where faeries and magic exist, and you've got something pretty traumatic. Since a deal was a deal, the faeries agreed.  I asked if it was okay to hug her goodbye before she forgot about me. She said yes.

We hugged. I left. The faeries adjusted her memories of the last few days. I would be nowhere in there.

And so ends the short tale of Priya and myself, I'm afraid. I'm a bit sad, it would have been nice to have someone else to share these adventures with. Ever since Martine and I broke up a few years ago, I've been living a single life. I was kind of hoping Priya might fill that hole, but I guess not.

Back to my lonely life, I suppose. I guess there's always Sophie...
