Helping Ukraine?
Added 2022-03-01 21:11:18 +0000 UTCEven THIS pervert can't ignore the tragedy that's happening in Europe. I'd like to do something, but I'm not sure if I have a great idea. Maybe commission a character from the BF-verse dressed in traditional Ukrainian garb and/or holding a flag? I don't want it to be something too crass or insensitive. Also, I'm not sure commissioning something is going to help Ukraine. I'll be giving work to an artist, but that doesn't do much to help Ukrainians.
EDIT: Following a most excellent suggestion by backer Mikhael Kates, I'd like to propose that everything I earn above what I earned in January be donated to a charity that supports humanitarian efforts in Ukraine (I'm open to suggestions if you have any). In January, my earnings were CAN $1,400 (about USD $1,100 after Patreon fees). Since I have a full-time job and don't need the extra cash very badly, I would maintain this offer for as long as there are hostile Russian military forces within Ukrainian borders or a full year, whichever comes first. I will be posting this on Twitter shortly. You can help by following me there (if you aren't already) and retweeting my offer.
If you have suggestions for humanitarian charities, please write them in the comments below. At the moment, I'm leaning toward Red Cross and/or Doctors Without Borders. More/better ideas are welcome.

I don't know if I can work a Ukrainian character in one of my stories, but I'll keep it in mind. My knowledge of Ukrainian culture is terribly inadequate and I'd be worried to do it a disservice.

2022-03-12 18:31:00 +0000 UTCIf it's any consolation, almost everything I hear from professional media here is pro-Ukraine and anti-Russian. Russian propaganda was never very effective here in Canada (and I suspect the US). It's especially true in Montreal, where there still is a strong Ukrainian continuity And while I don't feel qualified to talk about what's going on in Ukraine, I'm rooting for you guys. (I'm also in love with the song Stefania that Kalush Orchestra will be presenting at Eurovision 2022--I'm betting they're going to win!)

2022-03-12 18:19:34 +0000 UTCWell, I'm Ukrainian :) To be honest, best help from creators probably is spreading the word about what's going on in Ukraine. Russian propaganda is extremely strong, a lot of people still believes that russians are "saving" Ukraine, can you believe that? In future that wold be a great story for the movie - how to build an empire of lies and how to destroy it...
