We got steering! :D

Hi guys,

You'll already know that the steering works because of last week's Patreon update video but lots of other fun stuff happened too :)

In real-time news. This week took a bit of an unexpected turn. We have 1000's of little pinholes in the laminate (and gelcoat) under the waterline. I'll make another Patron Update video in the next few days and show you what's up (it'll also be in next week's video) but essentially I believe we need to remove all the old gelcoat and add a single layer of glass (with epoxy) just like we did aboard Athena as a part of her osmosis treatment. The catamaran doesn't have osmosis. This is something different - to me, it looks like a mistake during the build. Anywho it wouldn't be a boat project without super labour-intensive detours ;) This will be a project for future Mads. We do not have time to do this before we want to move the catamaran to North Carolina.

I hope you're having a fantastic weekend. Thank you so much for your support :)

Another Lewmar steering horror story. Guy in our boat club broke his steering box - chain driven doohickey and went to the local parts pusher. They won’t deal with them. So to the Australian wholesaler and they said 6-8 weeks delivery and exorbitant price. After much toing and froing he ordered it. It’s been nearly 3 months and still no part. :sigh: he’s almost a broken man.

There is at least one repair (above and below the waterline) that will need to be re-done but it can wait until we get to NC and get all settled in :) It will easily handle the ICW. My concern is the loads that will be applied by the rig and big ocean waves :)

If I remember correctly, didn't the hull have some questionable fiberglass work with possible UV damage? Will you have to deal with that, or is it above the waterline? Ron
