Resident Alien 3x2 | Full Episode Watch Along

The Upper Hand

Harry cooks up a scheme to have Asta lure away the Grey so he and D'arcy can do some snooping. Or course the plan goes awry! But I wasn't expecting them to get help from who came to their rescue.

Ans Big Mike finds out what happens when he dates an independent woman. I wasn't expecting THAT to happen either!

Are you ready? Let's go!

Why should Mike stop a breakup with some he isn't suited for? And "What would Goliath do?" Goliath failed.. remember?

I think Jay took Asta's harshness in stride because she immediately went to Dan and said Asta's in trouble. Almost as if the harsh tone was code for "help me." And they did spend a lot of time on Ben's foot! The photo the general was looking at was of her and her father. Remember, he jumped off the lighthouse when no one believed him about the aliens.

I have to say, for an episode in season 3, with its supposedly tighter storytelling, we seemed to have spent an inordinate amount of time looking at Ben's right foot. I think the foot porn gag wore kind of thin by the third time it came around, but I guess a man has to have his hobbies, hey Mike? And I agree, the photo on the screen needed color adjustment. Perhaps Harry should put the refrigerator repairman / window glass dude in touch with the sheriff. Maybe he could help. Or at least, he could Photoshop a lovely collage consisting of Ben's foot and some chipmunks. I'm also going to be a little critical of something I'm not usually critical about -- both Alan Tudyk's and Alice Wetterlund's performances in the trapped in a box scene came off as completely unconvincing to me. This show does such a good job with the heartfelt stuff that I'm at kind of a loss as to why I didn't feel it in that scene, but I just didn't. I didn't believe either of them actually thought they were failures. Maybe they don't, maybe that's the point? But in other scenes, it's clear that they do, so maybe the two of them just don't have the natural chemistry Harry does with Asta, or Max, or even Ben, or that Asta has with, well, pretty much everyone. Or maybe it was the direction? I was ready to blame it on Lea Thompson (I noticed her credit on screen too), but then I looked back and found the she had directed several other episodes that I actually thought were really good, so ... I dunno. Off day, I guess. I wasn't surprised that Joseph turned out to know nothing about what the Greys (Grays? Greys? whatever) are doing on Earth; he always seemed pretty clownish to me, more Useful Idiot than Alien Threat. But is he done now? That story line seemed to kind of fizzle. Lest I give the impression I hated this episode, though, I should point out that I loved everything at the diner, including Asta's recounting of the plot of Mork & Mindy to a very gullible Joseph (Yup. Useful idiot). And Dan standing up for his girl. We love Dan. I do hate it that Asta felt she had to be mean to Jay to get rid of (and thus protect) her, but Jay seemed to take it in stride, fortunately. Not surprised that Lena broke it off with Mike, because (at least when it comes to personal relationships) Mike is a dumbass. Also not that surprised that he ended up in bed with Judy. Because (say it with me) Mike is a dumbass. Hoping he rights the ship. He's usually been able to learn from his mistakes. I hope he does this time. I just hope he doesn't hurt Judy in the process, because while Judy ain't too bright and is a little too "easy" for her own good, I think deep inside she's a little damaged and actually kind of sweet, in her own misguided way. After the General listened to the audio of the Alien Tracker, she looked longingly at a photograph, presumably of someone she "lost." But I didn't see who it was. Did I miss something? I'm not sure. Don't work too hard, Anna!
