Weekend adventures! Portland, Oregon

My adventure buddy and I had an opportunity for a quick day trip to Portland. It was a whirlwind of a trip where we spent 24 hours in the Pearl District of the city.

Of course, that meant a stop at Powell's Book Store, which is ginormous! I picked up a copy of Treasure Island, the latest compendium of Saga, and A Court of Thorns and Roses. Adventure Buddy picked up The Art of Racing in the Rain. He has no idea what it's about! Let's see if he cries. Maybe I should have warned him?

We also got lucky and found a last-minute ghost tour that set off two blocks from our hotel. We spent the next 90 minutes learning about the underground tunnels of terribleness, the haunted theaters and bars, and The Benson Hotel. Of course, we had to go back and have a cocktail or two at the hotel. Unfortunately, no ghosts were to be seen.

It was also the Rose Festival, so there was a parade and fleet week along the river, including the coast guard ship The Eagle. We did not have time to go on a tour of the ship, but we were able to see the Lan Su Chinese Garden. It was so peaceful.

Racing back to Seattle, we ended the night at my nephew's birthday party and a little afterparty for us at Canon. I had been eyeing a drink on that menu for 10 years- 10! Covid restrictions and scheduling issues has kept me from one of most favorite bars, but I finally got my hand, and lips on a Campfire in Georgia. It was worth the wait!

Here's to more adventures that I can't wait to take you along with me. May the summer be full of more fantastic memories!

That sounds like such a fun little trip! My wife and I love ghost tours, and awesome bookshops. Shame none of the ghosts decided to join you for cocktails.
