He’s already the leader after the vamps turned on Camille, and eventually the Clave is going to find out about Simon being turned. If they find out years later, when Camille’s already been pushed out, they’ll blame Raphael even though it happened before he was in charge. The Jace and Alec scene was so good. Their parabatai bond always hits. It also makes sense that Jace thinks this is about the feelings thing—he’s way more stuck on that than Alec is. That realization is still new to him, while Alec’s been dealing with it for years, so Jace can’t even process Alec being into someone else right now, let alone Magnus. Alec’s whole storyline is just his head and heart constantly fighting. He’s harsh with Magnus because he’s engaged and trying to ignore his feelings, and with maleorne he hesitates so much because he knows it’s wrong—but he was raised to be the perfect soldier who believes the Clave is always right. I love his arc because his biggest enemy is himself, and it makes total sense that he doesn’t immediately abandon his values when that’s all he’s ever been taught to rely on.
