I know this is not the Ad-Free version you were expecting. We're having trouble getting it online. Since I do want to give you a preview time, though. Here's the Ad-Version but unlisted. I'll post the ad-free version as soon as YouTube processes it!

Go back and look at Cosmic Perspective's Valhalla. There is no shock wave. A blast front goes maybe 20M then becomes a flame front. Much of the liquid and gas just dissipates without igniting. Star Hopper and SN7.2 don't move at all! Nothing. The concrete landing pad gets dings from the collision. Even the automatic firehose stands right in the middle of the fire don't get hurt.

2021-08-18 00:43:12 +0000 UTCMy thoughts on an explosion at the pad and the proximity of the tank farm. I calculate the distance at just under 60M or 190' the GSE valve blockhouse is closer. Star hopper has sat at 61M or 200' from a few explosions and survived. We have to remember 3 things. 1) methane and O2 have to be gases to ignite, in fact ionized gases, not -183°C liquids. 2) Methane has an narrow ignition range of 6% to 12% mix with air. It's a slow burner 130 octane. 3) CH4 is way lighter than air 55% and O2 10% heavier than air. An explosion that goes up the downcomer can blast vaporized CH4 into the LOX tank and make a big bang, but the interface between the cryo tanks makes an explosion that pushes the components away from each other. This is not like the N1 with room temperature kerosene in tubes like dynamite sticks alternating with LOX. Musk is right. This is a huge fireball, but not an explosion exactly. SN8, 9, 10 & 11 didn't do that much damage and they were full of vapor not liquid. It needs to get to 600°C to ignite. Kerosene is 295°C. The controls are all in concrete blockhouses. The offices on the control building may go.
