A map of Roman Britain during Episode 1

Map of Roman Britain ca. 150 AD, showing the main Roman roads, cities, and Brythonic tribes.

Shows Hadrian's Wall and the less-successful Antonine Wall further north, as mentioned in the episode.

Interesting map of Roman Britain. Something i notice is most of the Coastal Settlements are on the Very Southern Coast/English Channel Coast. This seems to hint that the Roman Administrators and Economic Elites had little or no appreciation of encouraging trade routes or a Fishing industry from the North Sea or Bristol Channel Coasts. The Road Network is also most developed in the Southernmost part of Roman Britain. It be of some interest if in an Alternative history of Roman Britain that a centralised state with Roman Civilization technologies could have survived the last retreat of Romans from Londinium in 410CE and be able to withstand Anglo Saxon invasions or perhaps assimilate a reduced number of Anglo Saxon settlers. The history of Britain and later much of the rest of the world could have been radically different. Interesting Thoughts?
