1. Roman Britain - The Work of Giants Crumbled

Well, it's been a crazy few weeks to say the least. We've spent the last year on this show going over the trials and tribulations of past societies, and now we're facing a true historical crisis of our own. I do hope you're all keeping safe, and looking after yourselves and those around you in this time of troubles.

I'm honestly so grateful to all of you who have continued to support the show during what must be unpredictable times. I feel very guilty that I don't have a new episode to announce for you - and I promise it's as frustrating for me as it is for you. I have the script written and ready to go, but with the country in lockdown, I'm not able to get into the studio to record it, or to bring in my voice actors. I'm currently working on a way to record at home that will maintain the current production standards on the show, and I hope to have something to announce on that front in the next few weeks. But I've also been racking my brains about how to give you value for money in the meantime.

The answer I came up with is this: Fall of Civilizations TV. This is a visual accompaniment to the podcast, bringing aerial drone footage, stunning landscapes, maps and satellite images, haunting ruins, and battle reenactments to the screen alongside the usual stories, all in glittering 4K resolution. I know many of you get enjoyment out of re-listening to episodes, and I hope this will add another dimension for you and help you kill those long hours of quarantine. The first three episodes will be available in the coming days, and more will follow soon after.

Fall of Civilizations TV will be releasing on YouTube in the coming weeks, but there it will feature regular ad breaks at 20-30 minute intervals. You are the only ones able to view the show completely ad-free. So I hope this makes up in small part for the lack of a new episode during the crisis - and serves as a thank you for your continued support. You really have made all this possible.

Thank you, and I hope you all enjoy this exciting new phase of the project.

Third time I listen to this episode (first time for the video). What an amazing job you do with this podcast! Simply brilliant. I would like to know more about the research and work that goes into these episode - Truly an awesome piece of story telling

I just found this podcast on Youtube a week or so ago, and I just love it. I listen to it when I'm having cuddle time with my cat! Although I have to listen when I'm not sleepy bc your voice is very soothing.

I Love Roman history and it's tough because I live in Ireland and they didn't bother coming over here. Walked Hadrians Wall 3 years ago and there are such fantastic miletowers and great history there. This really reminds me of the experience

Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it! I'm glad you've found these stories comforting. I think this was part of the reason why I wanted to start the show.

Thank you! But please don't worry about value for money. I am more than happy to keep up my subscription during this time of seclusion. And yes... I've heard your voice in my head throughout this crisis. I'm an American, so the pattern fits all too dismayingly well... A great crisis arises, the leaders are selfish, corrupt, and incompetent, and so unable to meet the challenge of the moment... etc. In fact, may I take this moment to say that your podcast is one of the things that helped me stay sane (ish) through the Trump years: the perspective that apocalyptic as his presidency has felt, this is an old and oft-repeated story. I don't know why that should be comforting, but maybe any framework is better than sheer chaos.

This was a great production, and we loved seeing the visuals enhancing the beautifully told history. Please keep doing this. There are so many more civilizations that you have to bring to life. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts. Stay healthy in these difficult times.
