14. Vijayanagara - The Last Emperors of South India

Thank you to everyone for your great reaction to the latest episode. This has been a great video to put together, as the ruined site at Hampi really has to be seen to be believed. I hope this helps bring the story to life.

Your support of the show has helped us to furnish this episode with top quality aerial footage of the places involved in the story, and with premium reenactment footage licensed from the BBC. Thank you so much for helping to make this project shine!

Paul

Sorry, they are always updating something and then breaking the system. I'll see what I can do.

Dear Paul, I joined Patroens 1) to support yr excellent work and 2) To get the soundtrack for this programme - Found it ! And thanks again - OK so the Festival ahs come and gone - want to come on Holy quest next ?? A religious artifcat - bought by Hannibal - putin a niche in his villa at Tiber circa 74 BCE (Tivoli and sold by an unscrupulous digger/excavator to my Grandfather in 1955 - first light of day in 1500 years) p.s. this must not end up with the Vatican !

I'm sure I should be doing other things but these lectures are so beautifully constructed, I can't get enough of them! Thankyou!

Superb episode, Paul. Thank you.

I like this visual work. It is very difficult to hear the narrator over the background music and chanting. And it is frustrating for me to concentrate and learn. Perhaps I am old, but I so want to learn

Beth Klein

the experience you create is brilliant. was looking at your sources and it struck me that the majority of your sources were not created by indians or middle easterners. i wonder if indians interpreted and perceived history differently, producing a different narrative

Great work as always

Maruf Zaber

Magnificent stunning images, videos and superb history telling. Why am I not surprised! Many thanks Paul.

I can't imagine how much work went into this. It is marvelous!

Mary Roberts

Thank you my friend, that is really lovely to hear! I visited Mahabalipuram, Thanjuvar and Madurai in 2015 and was very struck by them. There is a great wealth of history in Tamil Nadu for sure.

Hello Paul, I've listened to your Vijayanagara podcast twice and watched the video twice now. I'm so grateful to you for this utterly fascinating and enlightening video! Although I'm a South Indian myself, there's so much in your video that I hadn't been aware of. My pet peeve has always been that Indian history books are disproportionately hogged by Indus valley civilisation/ Mughals. South Indian history is seldom so well researched/ narrated, let alone filmed as well! Please, please don't be done with South India just yet; I'm really hoping you'll also talk about Cheras/ Cholas/ Pandyas/ Pallavas and their astonishing history, literature, naval conquests and architecture that can still be seen in sites like Mahabalipuram, Thanjavur, Madurai, Ganagaikondacholapuram etc. And Aruna Sairam; what a brilliant surprise to find her associated with this video! With her own compositions as well! The album has been playing on loop in my car for the past month now. I can't wait for this video to become available on YouTube; I'm sure it'll be lapped up by history buffs and carnatic music lovers! A massive thanks to you again, Paul.
