could a lace monitor be a first monitor?

Jake Fraenkel

Could you do a video on the kings monitor? they are so small and cute.

Jake Fraenkel

Could kings monitors be a first pet lizard? They are smaller than ackies but need the same care.

Thanks Chris. Reading through the two theories I could find to explain the "venom migration" I felt the first one was a little too reliant on the idea of large cross-subspecies crossbreeding that, if the sole reason, should have happened a long time ago, not in the last twenty to thirty years. Likewise, the second "Red Queen" explanation of the whole predator vs prey arms race seems like a good environmental pressure model for shaping development. However, I feel its asking us to believe in a lot of different sub-species developing the same "Mojave type" neurotoxin in a "wave" (from west to east) of concurrent mini-evolution's. While I concede I'm not enough of a scientist (humanities student in the past), that seems very unlikely. Surely a series of different neurotoxins or different/more potent hemotoxins would have resulted? At least in an interim stage of competition before a clear "winner" of this venom race resulted from selective natural pressures? Rather then the particular "Mojave" blend being seen across sub-species. Really its all fascinating to me and I hope the question does encourage a bit of discussion for Clint.

Do you think you will ever do a video on giant African snails? They're so cool!! Thanks for all your awesome and videos and positive attitude!

Hi Clint, I just purchased a Jeweled Lacerta, CBB. Thank you for introducing them to me along with Ackies, Tegu...Animal House Pets and Supplies has them available.

Venom has multiple genes that code for its components. It's likely that a combination of evolutionary variables and environmental variables come to play in regards to which genes are expressed and which genes are suppressed. This same type of rapid fire variation can be seen in bird bills (think Darwin's Finches) and moth coloration. This would be a really good discussion question to introduce some hard science into the channel.

Hi Clint, I got a (for now) small pacman frog this week and it made me think. For me, the biggest drawback with frogs/amphibians is their unsuitability for handling. But is there any frog species that could keep you from drifting off into a wasteland of despair or do you think they're just not as much fun as reptiles?

Hi Clint! Johnny here. Connor and I really enjoyed our second face to face to face. In fact, can't pick a favorite. We were wondering if you will continue these, in a more limited fashion, after covid? It is a great opportunity for people unable to make the trip to visit in person. Be well, hi Liesha!

Is a 5’x 5’ x 3’ big enough for a full grown tegu enclosure? Especially if he is taken out frequently

Hi Clint! It's "Meezer," aka Ashlee, your first one on one video chat! You've been a really positive influence for me during some tough times the last few months. Thank you for being such a beacon of positivity. Our chat was one of the best highlights of my year so far! I know this is a little beyond your scope, but maybe your wife can help out, too? My husband and I want kids in the next few years and I am someone who is committed to caring for our animals their whole lives. I would never want to give up any of my babies! Realistically, what are the chances that through handling a pet rat or a reptile that I will get sick during pregnancy? Is there an easy way to test for anything serious? I ask this because even though the reptiles are low maintenance, asking my husband to care for ALL of our pets seems off the table, too. Any ideas?! Sending love from PA! -Ashlee

what is your favorite locality of carpet python? would you ever consider getting different localities like Bredls or Irian Jayas?

Tyler Lashbrook

Can you do a video on the argus monitor. I think they are super interesting.

Jake Fraenkel

Hi Clint! I’d love a little update on your Pictus geckos! I absolutely fell for them when I saw your video on them some time ago! I just wish they were more available so I could actually find some!

Jeff Grey

Hello there my friend! What in your opinion are some of the most handleable highly venomous snakes?

Anthony Simeone

Oh something arrived for me as well, finally got an ackie. Thank you for talking about them. I really started to fall in love with them because of your videos

Hello Clint, Got a rattlesnake question for you. I recently read about the migration of "Mojave Neurotoxins" originally only found in the populations of Mojave Rattlesnakes in Southern California and Arizona (Glenn and Straight 1989) having been discovered in specimens of the Timber Rattlesnake on the east coast in lethal quantities in the last twenty years. One explanation is rapid molecular evolution of venom as the result of localised crossbreeding that has spread across different species of rattlesnakes through mutual shared ranges from one species to another effectively "leap frogging across the country". The other explanation is that this spread is a byproduct of a small biochemical adjustments as a result of a predator and prey arms race? Lots of concurrent adaptions using variations on similar venom glands to out-compete arising prey resistances? Natural selection favouring those rattlesnakes with the most successful venom variant e.g. addition of a neurotoxin. What are you thoughts on the matter? Do you have a preferred explanation?

Do you plan on doing a video on the Black-Tailed Cribo or other snakes of the Drymarchon genus?
