my favorite picture of you ever.

Is you new BP a baby? Hope it is as awesome as mine and I am always glad to see someone who cares enough to watch Clint's videos go into the pet industry.

For me, my Ball Python has proven to be an excellent Emotional Support Animal for these troubled times. I am an apartment dwelling recluse, and dogs are not welcome and are high maintenance in an Ohio winter. I loathe cats with the fire of a thousand suns. Rodents live just long enough to matter, and then die. That does not help my anxiety one bit. A Ball Python, however, is silent, never annoying or irritating, never disrupts an online business meeting, but is there when I need him. He relies on me to care for him which makes me feel like I matter, and he will watch movies with me so I never feel alone. Bearded Dragons, Eastern Box Turtles and Tortoises may also fill you emotional needs. As Clint said, it depends on what you require. Best of luck, ask me anything, reptiles rule! :-)

Hey team! Jason here. I am going to call it here, that way we can prep for the live stream. See you in a bit!

Clint's Reptiles

Not a question, just letting you know I got a ball python and a new job working pet care at my favourite pet store! Your videos, as always, have been super helpful for explaining different reptiles to potential pet parents. Stay awesome!

Matthew - I know this comment was for Clint, and you didn’t ask for my response, but I wanted to try to make you feel better about your situation in the province… And express some of my own latent feelings. I struggled with conflicted feelings about snakes every time I gleaned a story like yours, but it never hit that close to home... Also, that it was children makes it particularly heartbreaking – most would agree, I would imagine. The occasional story or video like this seems like it comes out every year or so, but I don't look at them anymore. I think that snakes eating humans is probably statistically less common than the number of dogs killing children, or hikers mauled by grizzly bears... All situations which more than likely contain a level of human miscalculation, and an animal behaving as it's learned to do to survive. For snakes, I think the particular horror comes down to this: it's the way that snakes consume prey, coupled with the fact that snakes are already vilified and have been for most (if not all) of recorded history. I'm sure they've been revered, too, in a pagan or polytheistic religion, but for us in particular, it goes back to the natural fear of a threat (see: placing a zucchini next to a cat when they're not looking - o no, is a snek!), and, I'm sure you may have thought of this , but I don't doubt it's due to their association with the devil in Judeo-Christian religion. There are so many reasons snakes are used to portray "deviant" behavior in music videos, books, children's movies... etc. Which is why we need snake lovers to come in knowledgeable, responsible and adorable packages like the Laidlaw family :) A pet dog that badly maimed or killed a child would be euthanized also. Bears are euthanized merely when they become too accustomed to interacting with humans(I’m pretty sure). There are dangers to keeping some of the pets we have, and in order for it not to be perceived as dangerous or horrifying as, say, letting the children sleep over with a poorly contained, hungry liger or something, we have to continue to be responsible so the privilege of keeping these animals is not taken away. That goes into a whole other legislative matter. It sounds to me like think there was a failure in so many ways here - Why were the kids alone? What kind of enclosure was the snake in? How knowledgeable were the keepers? It is such a tragedy. I love my snakes, but when something consumes a human, I think most people can agree that that animal should be humanely euthanized, instincts or not. The only reason dog attacks disturb us so much is that they’re so domesticated, and the bond is so strong and evident. I intentionally keep things which cannot eat humans because the idea horrifies me (or my cats or dog – that’s preference and comfort, not judgement towards people who keep large animals). I did recently end up with two feeder rats who I adore SO MUCH and I'm out of baby chicks for my BP... So soon I have to deal with the reality of feeding him rats for the first time since I got my babies, which I'm not going to enjoy. There's a level of emotional removal as animal lovers who include reptiles in that category. Many people say they’re animal lovers, but the fuzzy feeling doesn’t usually extend to reptiles. It does have something to do with not seeing Fido viciously attack and consume another animal. We have to appreciate reptiles for what they are. They’re not domesticated, but they’re acclimated to us and we can have an extraordinarily cool, safe, respectful relationship with them. This involves understanding that what they are doing is no more evil than how we raise chickens and cows (inhumanely, frequently) and then use them to feed our family. As hobbyists the best we can do is what you're working towards - sharing and educating! So thank you! 😊

Clint, I don't think you answered my question on the last live stream! That's ok though, it was Leisha holding stuff madness ;) Any tips on how to maintain the bioactivity of a ball python enclosure? I want the substrate to be moist enough for it, but I use a reptifogger to provide the proper humidity. The substrate is actually pretty dry reptisoil I believe. I have a blank canvas of a long animal plastics cage, so I'm thinking of doing a background and adding other cool stuff!

Hey Clint and Leisha, hope you and the family are keeping well! Question, are reptiles the nerdiest hobby you have? I'm a self described nerd and people don't really bat an eye when I tell them I'm into video games, board games etc. But they all stare at me wide eyed when they find out I'm into pro wrestling lol definitely my nerdiest hobby.

Hey clint thank you so much for all the content im from a province where there was a horrible tragedy involving an African rock python and two small children the children in question had been playing with a bunch of animals that day and spent the night under a pet store where there was an African rock python that escaped through the night the boys were asleep on the couch and the snake thought they were food the snake was euthanized and the children didn't survive there was no winner in that situation and it breaks my heart I own a ball python thanks to you and your Channel but because of this incident people find out I have a snake and they think I'm some horrible person finding an apartment has been impossible I don't have a formal education I dropped out of high school started working in construction but I've accumulated vast amounts knowledge and work ethic and now I want to start a reptile sanctuary information centre because the hatred for these animals around my hometown and the surrounding Province as a whole... it's heartbreaking where would I look for regulations on something like this sorry for the ramble I felt the question needed buildup thank you again for such awesome content

Aye, greeting Lady Leisha and Lord Clint of thy most epic room of reptiles. I wish goodness upon thee and thine. The quandary of the day is this. Do you know a reliable source of False Map Turtles and how would you compare them with Red Eared (nasty invasive) Sliders as pets? My gratuity for your response knows no bounds.

Johnny @BornToEatBacon

Hi Clint, your video inspired me to purchase some emerald tree skinks. Both females are quite fond of jumping onto me whenever I open the door for feeding/maintenance, and will otherwise run up to and claw at the door whenever I approach. It is cute and endearing, but can be kind of a pain when I'm simply trying to feed them and have to worry about where they are on my body and the possibility of them jumping off and falling. I know it's a 'problem' many reptile keepers would love to have, but any advice?

Ben Baeten

Hi clint, what do you think about emotional support reptiles. Do you think that they could they be better than dogs, or cats?

Jake Fraenkel

Hi clint I want a blue tegu but I was wondering if there is a better and smaller one. The animal can't be larger than 3 feet.

Hi Clint! I've been really affected by the smoke recently despite being 30-40+ miles away from any fires. My dogs have also been affected by allergies, risk of their water turning to lye from ash in their water, breathing, etc. What are the long-term effects of these forest fires on wild reptile populations, from destroyed habitats to poor air quality? Is there anything we can do to help from a conservation point of view? Thanks so much!

Hello Clint, Question about the the evolutionary elements of Ophidiophobia, Arachnophobia and Galeophobia (fear of sharks) (sorry again Leisha!). I read about a study on fear and phobias where the subjects heart rate and pupil contraction was measured when shown images and heard the names of common fear inducing animals or situations. It seems that between snakes, spiders and sharks, that sharks cause the strongest reaction in the subjects of the experiment. Considering the former two phobia's have arguments based in evolutionary behaviourism e.g. most monkey's are afraid of snakes as predators, do you think the fear of sharks might also have such a possible root cause? If so do you think this supports the whole "swimming ape" theory at all? Alternatively, do you think its just the case that big toothy fish are scary to think about and we are a bit socially conditioned to fear them?

Hello my friend! Why does the Shingleback look so different from other species in the Tiliqua genus? Also, in the spirit of upcoming Halloween I’m watching the live today in my Punisher costume!

What are some signs I should look for to make sure my tortoise is a healthy weight? He is an adult Sonoran desert tortoise, which are sadly illegal to keep or transport anywhere outside of my home state, so info on them is sometimes difficult to find.

Where can reptile keepers look for clear, concise info on local, regional, and or national laws regarding the hobby (e.g. prohibited species, required permits for possession/breeding, etc.)? I can only find oversimplified listicles that do not provide enough information, or the text of the laws themselves which are difficult to parse without a law degree.

Hi team Clint. Is there a commercially available enclosure for an adult bci boa? Happy Spookyween! (Soon)

Hey Leisha, how are you going to get Clint back for making you hold the fun critters from last week??

What do you think about starting a GoFundMe page to raise the money to pay for the legal work to get my rescue listed as a non-profit and posting the link on the videos on my YouTube channel?
