2021-07-30 18:18:52 +0000 UTCWith a lot of these really weird distributions in the southern hemisphere the missing link in the puzzle is usually antartica, which had a land connection to south America and Australia long after the breakup of gondwana, and which only became covered in massive ice sheets in more recent geological history. This connection is believed to be how marsupials got from south America to Australia.
