Episode 61: Jamelle Bouie Has Seen the Future of Transportation

Hello War on Cars supporters!

Our new episode is now available wherever you get your podcasts. For this one, Aaron interviewed New York Times columnist Jamelle Bouie about how his new e-bike turned and how riding one changed his perspective on streets, parking and housing. Jamelle also offered his thoughts on our democracy and how to deal with bad faith arguments about culture wars, something we think has a lot of relevance to people who are accused of waging a war on cars every time they want to make streets safer for walking and cycling. We think you're going to really like it!

In other news, we just redesigned our online store and have added all kinds of new merch. There have been lots of requests from listeners for t-shirts in more than just black so check out the new varieties! We also have hoodies and tank tops as well shirts for kids, toddlers, babies and anyone else you want to indoctrinate into The War on Cars. To celebrate the launch, we're offering our Patreon supporters an exclusive 15% discount on apparel orders now through Wednesday. Just enter code BANCARS at checkout. And stay tuned, we're adding new stickers and other stuff soon. Spring is coming.

Thanks as always for your support!

- Aaron, Sarah and Doug

Episode 61: Jamelle Bouie Has Seen the Future of Transportation

New York Times columnist Jamelle Bouie has been riding an electric-assist bicycle around Charlottesville, Virginia for almost a year now, and he is convinced: E-bikes are the future of transportation. Not only has the e-bike transformed his own personal mobility, it has changed the way he looks at his city and gotten him more deeply involved in local planning and policy-making. In this one-one-one conversation, Jamelle and Aaron start off discussing e-bikes and end up talking about what it’s going to take to push America’s sclerotic political system to solve increasingly urgent housing and transportation crises in U.S. cities. Plus, Jamelle offers some helpful advice to anyone accused of waging a war on cars or fanning the flames of America’s culture wars.
