EPISODE 105: Paved Paradise with Henry Grabar

Hello War on Cars supporters!

We've got a great one for you this week as we welcome Slate staff writer Henry Grabar back to the podcast to discuss his outstanding new book, Paved Paradise: How Parking Explains the World. (Henry previously joined us on episode 82, Pain at the Pump.)

Paved Paradise is a deeply reported and highly entertaining look at what is perhaps the issue that defines so much of what we talk about on the podcast and what so many of you are working on where you live. The need to accommodate the short- and long-term storage of countless big metal boxes on wheels is a determinative force in the design of cities, the shape of buildings, the cost of housing and even the health of our planet.

I can't recommend Henry's book enough. It deserves a place on your bookshelf and should be shared with everyone who is affected by parking... which Henry successfully argues is everyone. I hope you enjoy our conversation.

We'll be back with an episode with me, Aaron and Sarah very soon.

Thanks as always for your support!

Doug

Parking ought to be easy to count via satellite mapping and garage counting. I think the uncertainty of the numbers is due to the ownership and specified purpose.
