It's the most Mr #1-derful time of the year

Ooh, it seems like it gets earlier every year, doesn’t it?

WRESTLEMEMAS season starts here, and so it’s time (© one of the Buffers) to start getting your list (of matches) ready for Santa (it’s Pete and he’s got a load of rabies spit frothing out of his mouth because he petted a dog that had swum across the Channel from France) so we can make sure the tree (Patreon) has presents (podcasts) underneath it for the big day (although it’s actually a month).

What I’m trying to say is let us know what matches we should be doing this year for the beloved WrestleMeMas! 12 days, 12 matches or wrestle-adjacent stuff that we’ve (a) not done before, (b) won’t likely be doing any time soon, and (c) we’ve not done already.

That means no matches from any major WCW or WWE shows. TV matches? Yes! Indy shows? Ooh yes! Odd curios that don’t fit into the mainstream? Yes please! Covering the whole of All In 2024? We’d rather not, that’s too long. Anything involving Seth Rollins? No, I think we’re alright, thanks.

God, this sounds like a lot of rules. It's supposed to be fun.

I’ve already got some jotted down (we like to keep them a surprise until they’re released, like a proper Christmas present, so I won’t tell you what those are), but please let us know what you want for Christmas.

I’ve got three rough categories: US, Europe and Rest of World. But if you want us to do something else – like that Undertaker Netflix special, which we’ve never done because, between you and me, I’m not sure there’s that much fun we can wring out of it, so not that one, bad example – don’t hold back!

I’ll give a thumbs-up emoji to all suggestions, but won’t be revealing which have been chosen until the episode comes out. BECAUSE IT’S FUN.

Also, thanks for those suggestions that have been logged on the WrestleMeMas thread on the Discord. We’ll sort out access for everyone again soon, but I’ve noted those, so if you wanna chuck them there instead of here, that’ll be MINT too.

So making a long story short: it’s WrestleMeMas, so what are you in the mood for?

HAPPY CHRISetc etc

Marc & Pete

xx

Total nonstop deletion December 15, 2016.Silly fun.

Phil Williams

I saw this ever single year, but once again, I'm saying the WCW arm wrestling tournaments. Come on. Fun to be had here.

Paul Chandler

As usual, I'm super late to the party but I've just thought of something. It's a slight cross over topic with the Luke and Pete show, but how about the wrestling episode of the early 2000s UK reality show 'Faking it'. From memory, the contestant gave himself the gimmick of a headmaster.

Chris Arch

Bit late but, as something different, how about Santo in the Wax Museum (1963)? Have you done any of his movies?

Chris Brosnahan

Anything from NXT Season 3, Kaitlyn vs Maxine is the most famous. If I recall there’s one episode where not a single match takes place, just assorted bullshit instead so that would be good for your wrestling podcast

Vance Archer from WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011

The Ultimate Deletion

Anthony Dennis

Not one I've actually seen, just read about, but how about the DDT Iron Man Heavy Metal Title 20 Man Battle Royale from WrestleCon 2017? Features an (allegedly) pissed up Marty Jannetty, a Battle Royale and (short-lived*) championship win for Hornswoggle(!) and even a bit of caning from The Sandman. Sounds up your street. Disclaimer: not seen the match myself, so it could be a steaming turd! * I'll see myself out.

Sam

Just generally, I think it would be great to hear about some of the 80s and 90s storylines that would have been on tv, but never made it to a Mania. Things like Tugboat turning on Hogan, or Bob Backlunds inexplicable 90s run.

Scout

Similar to another suggestion, I think it’s been mentioned on the show before but a track-by-track review of the WWF Slam Jam album of 93 would be great. I can’t quite get my head around the fact that my parents were good enough to let me listen to this in the car, and also that in the same year I was listening to Ten by Pearl Jam and Black by Metallica, I was also listening to the Nasty Boy Stomp!

Scout

Can I nominate AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe vs Christopher Daniels from TNA Unbreakable 2005 please. I’ve no idea how I hit upon it at the time, but it was one of the matches that turned me back onto wrestling (at a time when WWE were running JBL as their champ!) It’s not funny at all, and I’m not sure if it still holds up, but I remember thinking it was incredible and unlike anything I’d seen in 90s wrestling.

Scout

Have they reviewed the "Gaea Girls" doc on a previous episode? If not, I nominate that.

Mind sharing the link here?

How about this match with Hackenschmidt from 1908? https://www.ngataonga.org.nz/search-use-collection/search/F18094/

If you did want to do the Netflix WWE Interactive thing, you'd better be quick. Looks like it's going. https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/netflix-is-removing-almost-all-of-its-interactive-specials-this-month/

Has anybody suggested Stephanie McMahon's episode of Undercover Boss yet? Her acting is something to behold

Paul Harrison

late addition, CM Punk’s episode on Colt Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast in late 2014. I believe that it’s the most historically significant wrestling shoot interview ever, for what it revealed and everything it led too, including seeing Punk back in WWE

Kintaro Ooe

Stan Hansen vs Terry Funk WWA Death Island Match. They always had great matches, and no one is gonna say the best...but holy shit it's a fun one. https://youtu.be/yjSHNMs-kqo?si=Y3SDGdxvrWxwbBA7

Jacob Gosfield

My brain immediately spat out JAKE THE SNAKE ON PEANUT BUTTER FALCON WHEN HE GETS THROWN OUT THE RING IN SUCH A RIDICULOUS WAY IT RUINED THE MOVIES CREDIBILITY, this doubling down on fiction might be a step too far, even for this. Looking at Greg Valentine on Cage Match, he had a lot of matches in the late 2010s with fantastic names in there but I'm yet to find footage of one, but surely one of these is worth a consideration should it be available to view ANYWHERE.

Adam Evans-Pringle

Steve Corino vs Tajiri from Hardcore Heaven 2000 please!! One of worst (best) blade jobs all time. A camera lens getting splattered in blood, you see Corino (not so subtly) gigging and Tajiri genuinely kicks the living daylights out of his opponent. Harrowing but good fun. Nothing says the spirit of Christmas more than a 10 minute sprint where someone has pints of blood pour out of them. Ho ho ho

Michael Taylor

I’d already sent them a link for this so fully support a deep dive of it

Ross Pollard

I am fully behind these

Ross Pollard

Late, but would like to throw in my vague and unhelpful opinion about what I would like for Wrestlememas. I would love, of course, anything from the golden age of British wrestling, or anything from Germany as these two flavors of the grappling are the most unknown to me. I would also love if you just reviewed the fight between Roddy Piper and Keith David from They Live. Not the whole film, just that fight. Once again, thank you for all that you do and may you have a very happy holiday season.

Joe White

HAS ANYBODY SUGGESTED KENDO NAGASAKI VS. JIMMY GREAVES YET? (Sorry about the capitalisation, I was excited.)

Marc McBride

any episode of smw but #52 is pretty funny for the bad promo tim horner does, and the recap of paul orndorff yelling at a child https://youtu.be/gPuedZKhaZA?si=ePnPiLroND_6HX-1 or this episode with arm anderson in a sheet to hide him https://youtu.be/NT5znyAs7K4?si=5oEGRBUONz9tewqr

RJ

My gentle suggestion, is just an amazing, borderline awe-inspiring match with two Japanese lasses flinging themselves around like nobody's business. Manami Toyota vs. Akira Hokuto / September 2, 1995 at the wonderfully named Destiny Climax. https://youtu.be/pzD_QyYB45s?si=kfcFIq9Y-ArfY-IJ

Late entry here and don't know if it's been suggested. But, as you covered Michael Hayes 'album' last year, I would love love LOVE to hear a Wrestle Me-Mas review of Hulk Hogan & Jimmy Hart's 1995 'Hulk Rules!' album. Thank you and goodnight.

Ash Preston

I cannot stress enough that this should be reviewed. The doc and Stuart Millards piece about this doc are incredible.

Ash Preston

A watch-a-long or review of The Sheik Massacre by John Morrison and Taya Valkyrie.

Positively Myrdd

Jeff Jarrett vs Dirty Dutch, only it’s performed in front of/accompanied by an orchestra. Discussed by Jeff and Jerry Jarrett, Dutch Mantel and Jimmy Hart in a Vice documentary called Tales from the Territories…maybe just do any episode of this!

Steve Ward

Has anyone else seen WWF’s “public workout” prior to WM14?? Id somehow never seen or heard of it and it’s incredible! Shawn Michaels headbutts a battery and Micheal PS Hayes is awful. The crowd reactions alone were simply 🤌 40 mins of the WWF looking very vulnerable and nervous, thrilling stuff! It was recently uploaded on the highly recommended “WWF VAULT” YT channel.

Ben Wallace

WOW. This is a lot of excellence right here! Thanks so much gang, could not be more on the money. Not a single duff suggestion, so many breathtaking choices

M Haynes

Loved the Mad Kurt show, especially the Andy Quildan with the Big Arse costume Michael Oku had on

M Haynes

Pete is working on the Discord invites, we'll have that sorted soon!

M Haynes

Hahaha I had no idea we'd done it, we've got to start keeping notes

M Haynes

We've always said Invasion is the last ever episode, Chris. End on a whimper!

M Haynes

The Thunder in Paradise episode 12 "Identity Crisis", it's the one with Sting! Or Buff Bagwell v Glacier on Nitro, the burial of Glacier

Luke Pennock

You know, I thought I remembered that when I was writing it but couldn't be bothered to check. Time for another listen

P Mc

You'll be happy to know they've done the TNA reverse battle royale! WrestleMe-mas 2021 #3 :)

Adam Warner

BBC documentary The Big Time where a schoolteacher gets trained to be a pro wrestler, nobody smartens him up, and he gets put against Wigan's John Naylor at the Albert Hall and Naylor ignores the promoter's instructions to take it easy. It's a 1 hour documentary but does end with the match in full. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TWI-WaPpYQ or I can sort you out a better quality version.

i'd love to nominate the Aztec Jungle Deathmatch -- a peak-pandemic "gem" -- between Mil Muertes and Savio Vega(!) https://www.cagematch.net/?id=111&nr=99739

I think it's high time for the mockumentary I LIKE TO HURT PEOPLE. The Sheik. Terry Funk! A vaguely skinny Dusty Rhodes. Or just say sod it and do The Wrestler - but the one with Verne Gagne. Or if we're feeling intellectual MY BREAKFAST WITH BLASSIE

Laurence Boyce

Some modern day US death match wrestling, especially if it’s that nutcase Dr Redacted

Kris Davies

Please please please could you do the World Bodybuilding Federation shows? You've threatened to in the past. I know there's not much wrestling and laughing at Vince McMahon growling "LOOK at that MASS" may not be as palatable now as it was, but they remain entertainingly bizarre.

Have you ever done the TNA Fishmarket Streetfight from Destination X 2008? Team 3D vs Shark Boy & Curry Man

Iain McOmish

Jake the Snake vs Earthquake from Superstars - April 91. More an angle than a match but worth it alone for juxtaposing the emotion Jake puts into things with Sean Mooney’s performance and Vince’s commentary. https://youtu.be/KcKN_DQPG_0?si=PFvWyUhhB0Y2-vdm

Ritchie Lamond

Eee I'd love a bit of Stardom - maybe Giulia vs. Natsuko Tora from earlier this year? It's all on YouTube! https://youtu.be/AuaFkGCT6yY?si=esCP0Oqvm1Xc69po I will also accept anything Natsupoi or a deep dive into the hats of Rossy Ogawa

Andrew Barnes

I'm not sure if this is something I found via you guys or not, maybe via the newsletter? And it is WWF, but how's about Big Bully Busick Vs Brooklyn Brawler from Prime Time in 91?! https://youtu.be/CH1JzjILk50?si=uQY40i80yZP5-Z1y

Ippydon

Bit of an odd one but how about the 2008 documentary Bigger, Faster, Stronger? It is wrestling related with Mark Bell being part of it? Bit of a stretch maybe...

Danny Vaughan

I recommended Stalker Ichikawa for this after seeing a thread on twitter about his comedy style. Just wanna say again incase you missed it. Cheers!

Drew

Ah yes the lovely content that made me subscribe originally when I caught up on the free stuff

Michel Faber

Maybe you’d change your tune on Rollins if you check out some Tyler Black stuff from ROH. Also can you please send a new invite link for the discord server? the one you posted last year has expired

Kintaro Ooe

How about something from the Joseph Park / Abyss nonsense from TNA? The run against Bully Ray? Silly boys!

Bertrand Rustles

Have you covered wrestling on the game show Family Feud? There are a ton of clips out there, including this run with TNA wrestling: https://youtu.be/ZXrSfKYFUKw?si=uDApXYcP5Fu66nDa

The countdown has officially begun, excellent!

RevPro Vader vs Ospreay and all of the shenanigans which came before that

Backpack Boom Bap (Tom)

Anything from Hoodslam would be a great choice- particularly the Aurora Obscura show for October 2023. Boom Gang versus Newer Dogs from I Still Know What You Did Last Hoodslam is also a great match that feels like a fever dream. Really any random Hoodslam show can be fun- whether it’s Cereal Man becoming a father via alien shenanigans, the mysterious homicides, the evil grief counselor taking over as booker, or people throwing money to Dark Sheik to staple on her opponent there’s always something new and more insane to see.

Mike Cavenaugh

One of Warriors early WWF matches when he was known as the Dingo Warrior, I think he appeared on a couple of Wrestling Challenge episodes billed as that

Kris Davies

How about a wrestling movie review, the late 70s film Below the Belt

Kris Davies

Bit mainstream suggestion but I keep thinking how the low point and high point of early 2000s wwe was the two back to back title matches at Royal rumble 2003. Scott steiner vs hhh was the worst title match I've ever seen and so hyped up, immediately followed by angles best match against benoit (which is phenomenal). The shift in quality between the two will give you whiplash

Roland Young

ROH “The Era of Honor Begins” (ROH’s first ever show) CZW Cage of Death 5 (the match not the full show) Brock Lesnar in NJPW and the complications around the IWGP Championship around this time Ready to Rumble (2000 film) NOAH Departure (Pro Wrestling NOAH’s first show) Some shows I want to see covered but don’t fit the wrestle me-mas format; WWF Shotgun Saturday Night, the first 6 episodes AAA/WCW When World’s Collide Anything covering Germany’s Catch Wrestling Association

Kintaro Ooe

Has my brain broken or have they ever done Halloween Havoc 95? Felt when it was coming up in the timeline it would be a must, but either I or they’ve missed it. Obviously, The Giant v Hogan in first a Monster Truck match then in the ring with the Yeti. Know Marc said no WCW but if they’ve not talked about this show, just this ‘match’ would do.

Nicholas Nicholson

That Inoki island death match that went for 2 hours

Murray Szymanski

Ok this is a rogue idea but I discovered something recently and think you could have so much fun with it. An unreleased film starring Bret Hart and Corey Feldman that features this unbelievably exciting image https://www.reddit.com/r/Wrasslin/s/mwU9mvHz6a https://www.talesfromthedeadzone.com/ It seems the film has never come out but there is some great stuff around it: https://youtu.be/uVxf0tfS5xc?si=ltoqQ0MGYj-0WuFo (Look at the comments from the filmmakers on this) https://youtu.be/1-jltSzMI1M?si=lsVLfP7VpreUhiyk

I thought the mad Kurt forever show was great

Ivan williams

Something from Lucha Underground? Would be very different for Pete and it's one of the best modern wrestling productions. Could do the Pentagon vs Black Lotus Triad (including Kari Sane and Iyo Shirai). And perhaps if there's a collection of wrestlers on UK kids TV shows (eg Kurt Angle on SMTV Live, Scott Hall on Live and Kicking). Always great to get your insider view of television/media production with stuff like this.

Paul Ellett

As it met it's hiatus this year, it would be good to hear your thoughts on a Mdrn Nmd show https://youtube.com/@mdrnnmdpw?si=XYz4mUtVLhsnd_Qj

Rhys Wynne

I'm pretty sure I've recommended it every year, but Chig vs Dump, hair vs hair I (or II if you'd prefer, but I is my favourite). I recently showed it to a Japanese man in a izakaya in Tokyo, so you're not the only people I annoy with it - https://youtu.be/OOc2S04YiC0?si=8re0QRnFfoR6PWmf Kana (Asuka) vs Kyoko Kimura (the late Hana Kimura's mum) is a great example of just how violent Kana was before she went to WWE - https://youtu.be/CwApQ251JlU?si=9APPEWVBSgK5isS6 And Akito vs Veny (then ASUKA) one lighttube match, perhaps my favourite gimmick match of all time. The person who breaks the lighttube loses. It's DDT at its very best - https://youtu.be/GSrH4TuKq1I?si=tFP46D-lmblDz-ga

Stuart

That daft Celebrity Wrestling show that ITV did a few years back. I’m not sure I need to say anymore.

Colin Walker

Misawa and Kawada vs Andre the Giant and Giant Baba from 91 World Tag League. Two of the most exciting wrestlers of their generation v two Frankenstein's monsters. What happens when the only one in a tag team that can take bumps looks like a skeleton? What happens when it goes over 15 minutes? The results may shock you. Or not.

Gareth Clench

Trying to get ahead of me suggesting the Undertaker's spooky house netflix special is a low blow. Deep dive into the Big Show sitcom it is, then. ❤️

Why was the first paragraph written in a Hunter S Thompson style !!! Also anything from the best story arc of the last 5 years (only hangman / dark order comes close) Pom Harajuku vs Max The Impaler Or from the Setup Thailand you sponsored with an absolute banger of indie talent and fun

Ross Pollard

The Nigel McGuinness doc he made himself. Not the WWE one, The Last of McGuinness

Dan Dalby

I'd go for Ott father Ted match, as just seems mad and want to know more about it Vader on boy meets world, because Vader is great and Robert goulet is in it Or ftr Vs Aussie open at royal quest, althought this is just an amazing match so probably doesn't make for a good podcast Ahh or anything with dulce gardenia because he was fantastic at fantasticamania

Ivan williams

Would love you to review this French AJW documentary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmlyHOJdIXk that or Robbie Brookside's video diary/ the 40 Minutes episode about Klondyke Kate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUOk7CeAwz8

Martin

My 1st Wrestlememas! Not sure if this is allowed but my favourite match I saw this year live was Danhausen v Charles Crowley at OTT Scrappermania it is the most ridiculous and fun match I've ever seen live for something just bloody amazing Ospreay v Oku at Rev Pro High Stakes this year before Ospreay went to AEW, the crowd realising TK was there was a lot of fun. I like fun!

Naomi Randall

For a good comedy match, Martin Kirby v Walter from Defiant wrestling. Easily found on YouTube

Anthony Rieger

I've lost track of what hasn't already been covered. I see a lotta shouts for Jericho's sitcom though

Damien

Any king of the mountain match form TNA they're all ridiculous

Matthew Ahern

JBL Vs Blue Meanie from Smackdown on July 7th 2005. Short but, arguably, very sweet.

Colm Broadhead

I’ve been going to a lot of Riot Cabaret this year, which is definitely one of my favourite wrestling shows now. So any chance as it’s WrestlemeMas you could do the 90s Rumble from Jan 2023…I think we all know who shows up!

Disco_77

Please. As I know you both love his ventures so much. Take a look at Chris Jericho’s sitcom… https://youtu.be/KWqLzznqXj8?si=yZMlBRNufjQTEJmu

Mark Mann-Bryans

There’s an episode of Are You Being Served where Mr Humphries has a wrestling match with a character played by Jackie Pallo. Seems like a Me-mas sort of thing…
