Speartember Day 15 - Legion
Weapon (spear or pike), very rare (requires attunement)
—------------------
The Baleful Banner is a grim pike forged from the bones and debris scavenged from battlefields where thousands have perished. The weapon's shaft is entwined with skeletal remains and shattered weapons of fallen soldiers, while a spectral banner—woven from the souls of the defeated—hangs from its side, whispering mournful tales of war and loss. The banner shimmers faintly with a blood-red glow, stirred by the anguished souls trapped within.
Since the Chaos Ages, necromancers have often sought out battlefields to craft this ominous weapon, as it efficiently stores large quantities of restless and vengeful souls. This practice gave rise to a tradition and superstition among militaries: the victors of a skirmish or war should cleanse the battlefield, bury the dead, and bless the land as thoroughly as possible. Otherwise, their enemies might commission a necromancer to raise the fallen against them. Unfortunately, such traditions have begun to fade in modern times.
—--------------------
You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon.
Soulbound Soldiers. As an action, you can summon 1d4 Specters (use the Specter stat block) by spending Hit Dice. Roll 1d4, then expend a number of hit dice equal to the result. If you don’t have enough hit dice, your maximum hit points are reduced by 10 per missing hit die until you finish a long rest.
You roll 1 hit die and add your Constitution modifier; the total is added to the maximum hit points of all Specters summoned. The Specters obey your verbal commands, take their turns immediately after yours, and remain for 1 hour or until they drop to 0 hit points.
Additionally, when you reduce a humanoid creature to 0 hit points with this weapon, you can use a bonus action to raise the slain creature as a Specter under your control by spending 1 hit die. Roll the hit die and add your Constitution modifier, the total is added to the maximum hit points of that Specter.
You can only control a number of Specters equal to your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus. If you attempt to summon additional Specters beyond this limit, the newly summoned Specter replaces one of the existing ones (your choice).
Banner of the Damned. As an action, you can spend 2 hit dice to cast Spirit Guardians. The spell’s save DC 16. Additionally, you and all Specters within 15 feet of you gain temporary hit points equal to the total of the hit dice rolled plus your Constitution modifier. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
Shackles of the Fallen
The spirits bound to the Baleful Banner are vengeful, and their presence weighs heavily upon your soul. After each long rest, roll a d6. On a roll of 1, a Specter previously summoned by you does not return to the afterlife. Instead, it becomes hostile and reappears to attack you at dawn. The cursed Specter has the same stats as a normal Specter but cannot be dismissed or commanded. The cursed Specter will relentlessly pursue and attack you until destroyed. You cannot benefit from a long rest until the cursed Specter is defeated. If you are slain by the cursed Specter, your soul becomes trapped within the banner, preventing you from being resurrected by any means other than a wish spell.
