This was such a fun time and I simply can't wait to dive into the next two movies. Also, yes, I did think I was really smart and figured out a major plot twist on my own when in reality.. I just missed a part of the movie where they essentially told me that that was what was going on. But hey! nobody is perfect! lol

I subscribed to the Patreon recently, so I’m just now watching this, but in terms of watching the movies, I personally liked the fourth one (On Stranger Tides). I probably just liked it cuz it has Sam Claflin in it and pretty mermaids, but I also thought the lore was interesting. The most recent (Dead Men Tell No Tales) I didn’t enjoy as much because I felt like all the Jack gags were forced. You can’t go wrong with watching only the main trilogy, but the later movies add some extra flavor, though they mainly focus on Jack instead of the gang (Jack, Will and Elizabeth).

I was obsessed with this trilogy as a kid, and rewatching this one now, it really is a fantastic movie. As I was watching, I found myself thinking “There isn’t a single thing I can criticize about this movie”. The action, the MUSIC, the practical effects and stunts are just so good. The only possible critiques would be historical inaccuracy—but it’s a fantasy adventure film so i feel like it gets a pass—and the CGI. It isn’t flawless, but they weren’t overly reliant on it, and they used it cleverly enough to make it work about as well as anyone could have. I love the characters too. Barbossa might be my favorite in this movie, he’s SUCH a pirate’s pirate. Like, textbook definition of a pirate. He’s so hammy and over the top with his delivery, it’s the best. And Jack Sparrow demeanor was supposedly inspired by Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones, Depp playing Jack as a sort of “rock star” pirate. Can’t wait for the next ones, imo the CGI in Pirates 2 doesn’t *just* hold up, it’s actually STILL better than most modern movies, and it’s almost 20 years old.
