BELLY FLOP VIDEO FINAL CHECKS!!! PLEASE READ!!!

TODAY'S THE DAY!!! BELLY FLOP VIDEO FINAL CHECKS!!! PLEASE READ THIS AND THEN WATCH CAREFULLY!

I still have a few things to finish up like the TIMESTAMPS screen at 2:45 and I have to add Mission Director credits at the end section too... but!!!

We're in FINAL CHECK mode which means ONLY make comments on FACTUAL errors, like wrong math, misspellings on screen, or if there's something I say that is flat out wrong. We're beyond time for debates on how the subject flows unless there's an overwhelming amount of people with the same feedback on a section. So don't worry about umm and uhhhs or my funny way of speaking, let's just check for the "But actually" type of comments we'd see in the comment section.

Put your notes here in order of time (so double check no one else has the same comment before making your comment) - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15k6Q3Fa25scawkwWpHexxv-r_Qgsvf8boYe8aWfLYrg/edit?usp=sharing

Thanks everyone ! ENJOY

Watched it twice - great explanation!

Thanks for the great explanations. Since SpaceX is closer than ever to launching a Starship that will have orbital re-entry, are there any updates to how SpaceX will handle heat transference? I haven't been able to find much online about SapceX's plans. Many thanks for your reporting.

The video is excellent Tim!

Very neatly explained what is actually quite a complex interaction of different effects. Nice work guys!

Excellent video. Love your content. Keep doing these.

Great work Tim, great see you back working on these videos. Given the belly flop to tail down maneuver is designed to land on Mars (or moon) where there are no runways... maybe it would be good to have a video comparing the differences of doing this maneuver on Earth vs. Mars and the different considerations with Mars' thinner atmosphere and Starship's lower 'weight' on Mars. Keep up the great work! James Mc.

Did not notice anything wrong. The Belly Flop, an elegant answer to the rocket equation!

It all looks good to me and makes perfect sense to me. Awesome video, keep up the awesome work

I think overall it looks good. Nothing jumps out as out right wrong to me. SHIP IT!!! 😁👍🏾

Great video, love the videos that help us understand the design considerations. Next video:. Why is Starships diameter to height ratio what it is? What stops you from making a short wide rocket that has higher drag while falling upright? I assume it's something to do with "Max Q" but I would need another video from Tim to really understand 😉. Thanks for all you do Tim!

A fine job!! Congratulations ☺️ It’s not a video to be watched whilst trying to multitask, and needs some focus and concentration; but that’s no bad thing at all, and besides, you make it engaging and varied enough to hold the attention throughout. 👏

Excellent!

But that's true though. His last video took the time to explain in details about this. Basically, if you're falling, you are accelerating (unless you've reached terminal velocity). Adding an opposite thrust equals to your weight, you'd stop accelerating (or reduce terminal velocity), but you'd continue falling at the same speed. Your thrust has to be greater than your weight to decelerate. Once your speed is zero, you can reduce your thrust to match your weight and only then hover. That's hard as you're burning through fuel, this losing weight, this forcing you to reduce your thrust to continue hovering.

Another awesome deep dive video Tim!

Looking good Tim. The first time through, it was a bit confusing at first where you do say (incorrectly) that if thrust = weight, you will hover. But then you do continue on to explain in detail that that is only true after you have acheived zero velocity.

Great Job Tim.

Hi Tim and fellow Aerospace Education provider! Excellent explanation of thrust physics and landing.... Great Job and if you ever make it up to Seattle Washington, I'd love to show you our Museum of Flight as my guest.

I think at 34:16 you say "high precious" instead of "high pressure." Not a big deal, but didn't know if its the kind of thing you'd re-dub.

Oh!!!! I’ve been SOOOO looking forwards to this video!!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

AWESOMEEE!!! 🚀
