Perhaps several generations after the initial outbreak, the zombies have adapted to the point where they've regained their sentience and an uneasy peace was established. That is until human scientists finally created a cure for the zombie infection that can revert them back into humans. Problem is, they're forcibly curing the zombies whether they want to or not, and some have been zombies so long that changing back now will kill them of old age. So the zombies flee in terror from the human hordes trying to cure them. Instead of cries of "brains," the chant is "currrrre."
