"The New Normal" (The Normal Album 2024 Edit) WAVs

Here's the new mix of The Normal Album. Kevin Antreassian and I started working on it in 2023 and we've been chipping away at it on and off for at least a year, mostly just for fun. I've decided to kinda casually drop it, but y'all can have it now, to download. It'll be up on major DSPs real soon.
I really hope you like the new sound. It's super different, and we changed a lot, and I personally think it sounds much better than ever. If you were really into the constant-punching-in-the-face style of the earlier mix, don't worry, that one's not going anywhere, but I really feel like you can hear the instrumentation way better and the style is much more how I originally envisioned the songs. I applied everything I've learned since recording it in 2019, and Kevin really brought out the best in the tunes. There's a lot more clarity from the panning, and you can finally hear the bass, and the drums don't always feel like a headbutt to the sternum. (No criticisms of anyone's prior creative decisions but my own!) The EQing is squeaky clean, but the recordings sound way more organic, and I threw some cheeky little samples and effects on here and there for giggles.
The only new recording in it is a quick bit of MIDI on a glockenspiel lick in Marsha, otherwise everything is an edit, an effect, a sample, or a take that we recorded in 2019 but didn't include in the original mix. Some backing vocals were tuned, (I'm not against pitch correction, but wouldn't want to pitch correct lead vocals you're already used to hearing totally raw, that'd be awful) some rough takes were smoothed together, some polish was added, and in other places some polish was removed and some roughness was brought out.
You may notice Love, Me Normally isn't here - that's because I have a contract with the producer of that track that I don't understand well enough to want to get into the minutiae of figuring out what's kosher and what isn't, and I can't afford to hire him to mix it again, so I didn't touch that one. Sorry!

If I could do it over again, I would've ignored the IMM stuff completely. I don't have any resentment toward the song or feel any of the ways about it that you'll hear people online say I do. I think it's one of my best-written tunes, and I love playing it. I'm grateful for having stumbled into the ideas that went into it, and grateful to know that people were moved by it!
