State of the Serial - July 2025

You know, all those authors doing State of the Serial updates have the right idea. I think it's high time I start doing that, too.

State of the Serial updates will generally discuss, uh, the state of things: what's happened with the serial over the past month, what I'm planning, and I'll definitely be fielding ideas for how to engage my audience here and elsewhere more. Y'all are pretty cool.

Hello! Origami Narwhal here, call me Ori or Nar. I've been writing web fiction (mostly short form) for... something like thirteen years. The Drake of Craumont is not my first venture into original fiction, but it is the first one I've published online.

Speaking of, though: Drake is just about to enter its third arc publicly! We're shifting away from mystery for a bit and into action. More character banter and tension with a tighter cast, including the all-new Verity Greyfeather. There's art of her attached to this, because I think Grimmjeow did a fantastic job with her.

As Drake continues, and as my Patreon accrues money, I intend to commission more art of the characters. At the rate things are going (about ~$100/month!), that's one every... two or three months? Fingers crossed.

...Finally, Patreon engagement. How would people feel about free members getting a chapter early? Once I get a new backlog chapter. If you'd like that, or have other ideas, let me know in the comments.
