The State of Things

I had wanted to turn this in to a podcast. I got my microphone out of storage and everything. Unfortunately, the way things are right now, that's not possible, and won't be for a while.

I've been in Nevada about a month and a half now. Things are very difficult out here. Climate-wise, it's not too different from Colorado, and as long as we're in the city, it's virtually indistinguishable from anywhere else. Actually, in spite of Carson City being the state capitol, it feels like kind of a small town. I came from a small town -- Lafayette, Colorado is sort of a suburb of Boulder, and the Lafayette Public Library was 5x as big as the Carson City Public Library. Heck, every Colorado Library I've seen is at least 5x bigger than the one here in Carson. It literally looks like maybe two or three rooms, and we're talking a location six blocks from the capitol building.

Maybe that explains why there are so many "Don't Tread On Me" flags and "Proud Trump Voter" bumper stickers out here.

The real trouble is finding a place to move in to. Rent out here in Nevada probably isn't that much cheaper than it would have been in Colorado, and finding a place big enough for us that will also take pets for what our budget is... well, it's proving to be incredibly difficult. Desperation is beginning to set in. From the people we've spoken to, it sounds like Tesla (or some other big tech company) opened what they call the "gigafactory" out here in Nevada, creating a bit of a housing shortage as workers flood in from around the nation. A lot of places have waiting lists that are months, sometimes even years long, and we simply do not have that kind of time.

So, yeah, things are getting desperate for us.

Anyway, short of this update getting a little too personal, that's the way things look right now. Moving in to a place will effect the release of the planned Sonic Mania video review (which I will do or die trying), so whenever I'm available for that, I'll do it. If y'all have any questions, don't hesitate to drop them in the comments of this post, or send them in to my tumblr, or anything else of the sort.

Until next time.
