"When are we going to meet Garp ? That's gonna be soon for sure" Well...how to say that...

The live action was great, and live action usopp was definitely underplayed, because they couldn't spend too much time on his island. However, I think the actor is great and does a great job of bringing more of a sarcastic mask vibe to Usopp as opposed to the liar/scaredy cat vibe he has in the anime

I don't think you'd like it less watching the live action first. Most of the manga/anime fans really liked the live action too

Luffy always looks dumb and acts dumb but he is emotionally intelligent. If we look at Baratie, after listening to Sanji and Zeff's backstory he tries to destroy the ship. It looks dumb at first because Sanji was fighting for the same ship and he is destroying it. However, after saying that "zeff didn't save you to die for him now" to Sanji, I think we can assume that he has almost no brain cells, but that 1 brain cell does work when it's needed.

Luffy is extremely emotionally intelligent. A lot of people take this episode as confirmation that Luffy 'doesn't care about his friends backstories' and a whole lot of other BS.
Remember that Luffy listened intently to Sanji's backstory and pursued him to join tenaciously. But because of Luffy's intelligence and awareness of emotions, he immediately realized that Nami wasn't going to be convinced and she was far too set in her thinking to be talked to. So he simply decided to wait, let the situation marinate, and see what develops. It's a brilliant thing to do, he recognized that there were no words he could say to get through to her. He decided to just silently be there for her in case she needed him, stand by her while she worked it out herself, and figured out what she needs, which is honestly a beautiful action.
When Nojiko offered to tell them the backstory she prefaced it by saying "you'll want to leave after you hear this", THAT was the important statement, THAT was why Luffy walked away. He already knows he's not going to leave her to her very obvious suffering (like Sanji he could clearly tell she was in pain) So why should he have to listen to the story? He knows it's not going to change his mind. Nami has already endeared himself to him, Nami is his friend, and Luffy doesn't need any reason to help her, not a backstory or favor or moment of courage, he just needs her to say the word and he'd move mountains for her because he's already decided she's one of his important people. It not that luffy’s not complex - its that he is high in charisma and wisdom and low in intelligence. He is highly perceptive of people but selfish. Goku with intuition basically.
I’ve just caught up with you and got to say, don’t ignore shipping because it’s safer. Oda makes it implicitly obvious in comments and external media that he has a favourite. He just has no intention of writing it - he’s not confident and it’s not the focus - if we’re lucky we might get something at the end - don’t hold your breath Carlie. One piece is very good a general natural relationships so just base things on emotional intimacy instead of running gags. There are parts of the story that will scratch that itch, just in ways that will not change the crew dynamic much. Good rule with all aspects of one piece if it’s subtle, listen - if it’s extreme, laugh.

Also, the Pandora's box you opened with Sanji vs. Zoro is nuts.

Understanding Luffy’s character is a journey. He is full of layers, though you are not supposed to see them all at this point, it’s still the beginning.
We are used to other anime Main characters that are meant to be understood and loved straight way, but Oda took his risk and made Luffy very likeable, but mysterious in his ways.
For example, him not staying for Nami’s backstory can be perceived as him not caring, but then (when you get to know him better) you realise that he really doesn’t care where you come from or who you were. He cares for who you are now. If Luffy likes you, you could be the devil himself and still he wouldn’t care.
The relationship among the Straw Hats crew is gold. It’s one of the top factors that make people love One Piece.
