March Devlog
Added 2022-03-23 23:34:04 +0000 UTCHave you played the most recent Beta? I really need feedback, so be sure to give it a shot!
Anyway, hello again!
I've been super busy working on new content. I did take a brief break to design Katie and Sophie, but I've made some quick progress and I'm already excited to share some of the new features coming in The Blind Date Game beta 0.4, which I hope to have out this next month.
The Blind Date Game Updates:

3D date environments are now a thing!
It's been in the plans from day 1 to have 3D environments and they'll likely replace that plain 2D test environment from Date an Otter. I'm currently working to finish the first environment: the diner from Date a Mink. The first few environments in the game will all be from my previous projects to give me a starting point.
This hasn't been without issue, of course. Since the camera can now technically be anywhere in relation to the girl, I've taken the time to update the "Compliment Her!" event during dates to make it track and resize to wherever the girl may end up on the screen. This took a few days work to figure out and is still not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with the results.
Date animations!
The functionality for this was mostly already in the game, I've just taken the time to add some poses for testing. With this update, your date can be far more expressive, gesturing with her hands and just generally moving a bit more. Currently it's set up like a visual novel, only changing pose when she's told to, but she definitely moves around more.
I still have a lot to learn about posing and rigging models, so this has been a good learning experience. Hopefully once I have the next demo ready, her arm doesn't clip through her hoodie anymore!
Date Environment Mods!
I'm really happy to have custom environments already supported with this upcoming update! There are two types of environments you can mod in:
- 2D dates: Using a foreground and background texture, the girl will be placed in between the two images.
- 3D dates: Fully rendered locations created within Godot.
Both mod types support custom music and are super simple to add in. I honestly think that creating environments will be an excellent starting point for new modders!
Upgrades to the Date Preview!
With the release of beta 0.4, you will now be able to do a lot more within the "date preview" in the character creator. Currently, it lets you easily test all your girl's expressions and poses while also allowing you to test her in any date location.
This should make experimenting with face textures, custom outfits, and custom environments much simpler. You won't have to go into a date and hope for good rng anymore!
Other Updates:
I've started work on a very simple project to test many of my planned concepts for Catgirl Care. Much like many of my other side projects, I'm not giving this my full attention at this time since The Blind Date Game takes priority, but this project should give you all a better idea for what I have in mind with my eventual catgirl raising sim.
I'm still deciding on a name for it, but the current working title is "Catgirl Care Chibi".
The game is very barebones at this moment, with placeholder graphics and only one behavior programmed for the catgirl's AI, but the project is small in scope and should be easy to put together once I decide to dedicate more time to it.
Just for fun, the project will also come with an optional mode I'm calling "Desktop Catgirl" where the catgirl will simply wander around on your screen while you use your computer.
Here's an example of that with the current placeholder:

Anyhow, thanks for your continued support, everyone! I couldn't do this without you all!
