A portrait for fusionh0ss of FAa / RexPecs of Twitter! It's important to respect your elders; otherwise, someone like Homura here might end up knocking some sense into you! Available to all patrons at full size because portrait. c:
Embracing roughness a bit more, which I think you guys can see a bit in this painting! I'm trying not to overly render EVERYTHING like I always do, which I think you can mostly see in the neck, coat, and a bit of the face. I still like rendering out important bits, so the chest and the face as well as the weapon handle, as I think that's really important -- I don't want to let myself succumb to roughness and texture everywhere, since I really really value the works of people like LD Austin and have always really admired that style. But I think I've been overly ambitious in trying to achieve that same look.
In trying to let some of that go, this guy came together very quickly, and in a really satisfying way. The hair, which I was really worried about, is a prime example -- at first I was worried about how I would render out the dreadlocks, but a quick "concept art" brush (literally the name Corel gave it, Concept Art, aha!) added some really, really nice texture into the hair. Then I just went over it with a stiff acrylic-like brush to get some of the twisting, knotted feel. I think it really, really worked out.
I think it worked a biiiit less in the coat, but thankfully, it's not a prime eye location! So I was okay with letting it be a bit weaker. I really need to work on my cloth study, specifically for folds and creases. Whoops. That shoulder closest to us is... Well, I'm a bit embarrassed by it, but we'll just hope that no one looks at it too closely...!
First one of the new batch of commissions done, though. This one was a treat. Onwards to a large barbarian Argonian! Thank you guys for sticking with me and supporting me, as always. Stay safe out there, wear your mask, get your boosters if you haven't been able to yet, enjoy Elden Ring later this evening (I know I will) etcetc.. And pray for Ukraine, now, to boot. God, the 20s really won't stop roaring, huh.
Cheers. <3 Love you all.
