Tavern Brawl Bros (Hi Res)

A piece for PoshPompadour (Twitter), alongside Raging_Air (Twitter)!  Gnolls are both destructive yet quick to end fights once they realize  they are an even match. My poor tavern was no match, though...

This  one was a bunch of fun. I went a bit overboard, per usual, but when  Thunder posed the new idea to me, I knew I had to go for it. The result  feels great to me. I'm really happy with the lighting and some of the  colors in this one, as my goal was "something you could find in a  D&D book", and I think I got pretty close to where I wanted! It was  also just very nice to work with some good bellies again, change things  up, and it helps that they are attached to two very good looking  characters!

Much love to both Thunder and Air for letting me-- oh  my god I just realized the combo of names-- to both Thunder and Air for  letting me work with your fantastic guys! And another to Thunder once  again for letting me work with you once more. <3

Cheers!

Another one down! This one, like I said, I set the bar a little bit higher, which knocked me around a little bit. I set out to try and do something that you might find it, like, the corner or page of a D&D book. So I used a lot of those types of work on my mood board to try and guide me towards specific lighting or color choice. I think it really worked out in my favor!

Of course, some of the slow down was also due to just... social media crap. AI art and all that. I could go into it here, but I don't know that it's what people want to read about specifically in these sorts of hi-res extra bits, so I'll just say "ugh". I was very distraught about them at first -- now I just sort of see them as a neat gimmick, one that I'm side-eyeing with a LOT of suspicion. I think a lot of my woes with it are based on who is pushing it (read: crypto bros and big corporations), but whatever. I got animal people to paint.

ANYWAYS. Gnolls! I think if there's anything here that didn't work, sadly, it's sort of a key area -- I wish that I had a better way to work in the fist bump. I think my composition didn't accommodate it the best. That's on me. I definitely told myself "Oh, it's not so bad, and I can fix it down the line in painting!" but I think it just wound up feeling a little bit cramped. I still like it, but mmm, noted for the future to fix -all- the little quirks in the sketch if possible.

Which I'm definitely going to keep in mind for the next piece, as it's a dragon twisting around a tower. So anatomy and composition are going to go hand in hand...!

What else... Mmm... Yeah, I don't have anything else too crucial here on this one. I'm just plugging away, trying to keep the commission train rolling. I'll try to do some personal work some time soon. I know I don't really do that a whole lot. I get nervous that what I would do would be "cringey" or "embarrassing" or "shallow" but. Uh. I'll try to make a note to do that. Sorry this is always a lot of commission stuff! I hope that's been okay. I've been worrying a lot again lately about what this Patreon means and if it's okay that it's basically just a tip jar.

I really do appreciate you guys helping me out. It means the world to me, and it helps me so much more than you might know. So thank you. <3 Love you guys. I'll try to be back soon -- this next commission, at least, might be a doozy! Stay safe out there.
