2021-05-08 17:09:19 +0000 UTCThe very first Richard Rich's Swan Princess actually got the design of Rothbart correctly match his very name, because Rothbart or Rotbart literally means "red beard" in German, and the villain did really have a red beard, so only that animated feature got something right.

I didn't watch many as a kid, and the barbie was just always gifted to me because it was expected that I, a girl, would want one. Even though I quickly grew past barbie dolls in my childhood, I still enjoy the movies on some level. They are relaxing in their easiness I guess. Like other childhood shows.

And how does the unicorn has braided manes and tail when y'know, she has no hands? Never knew Mainframe did Barbie movies. Also, that dead swan/parrot sketch was great! Gotta say I liked Odile - she has an annoying voice and is spoiled, but still she looks cute and I liked that Rothbart actually loves and cares for his daughter. Adds some depth to a villain. Also, clever ruse indeed with the illusion. Hehe, I half expected you would add a "loneliness meter" for the swan when Odette starts dying from lack of love... she is like the Beast in those bad Beauty and the Beast animated movies.

2021-05-02 18:44:37 +0000 UTCanyone here ever seen the anime Princess Tutu? it's short anime series that does an effective retelling of Swan Lake, while making meta commentary on storytelling in general, where the prince is the one in need of saving, Odile is actually in love with the prince, it's the Prince's knight that saves the day and falls in love with Odette, and Odette isn't a princess but an ordinary duck that got turned into a human.

Also I'm pretty sure the girl Barbie is telling the story to is her younger sister Kelly(or at least Kelly WAS her younger sister until she was replaced with Chelsea) as I distinctly remember that quite a few of these earlier films started with Barbie telling Kelly a story.

I properly watched through Beast Wars a few months ago and love that Hasbro decided to make new toys for them.

So during one of our guest writing sessions at the mention of unicorns, I brought her out and came up with the Horny Unicorn bit on the spot. Lol
