MHA: The Fictional Hero: All Fiction - Chapter 6

‘Of course we have to sit next to each other…’

Izuku Midoriya deadpanned as he slid into his assigned seat in the auditorium—unfortunately, right beside Bakugo.

To his mild surprise, the explosive blond didn’t say a word. Just like at the school entrance, Bakugo did his best to ignore him. Maybe he hadn’t forgotten they were being watched.

Good. Let’s keep it that way.

As Present Mic took the stage below, Izuku forced down the spark of excitement building in his chest. Showing it would only invite a reaction from the walking firecracker beside him.

No need to ruin his chances before the exam even starts.

Once the rules were explained, the atmosphere in the room shifted. Everybody realized what this Exam was about. They had ten minutes to rack up as many points as possible by defeating robotic “villains” worth one, two, or three points depending on difficulty.

Simple. Direct. Brutal.

Not exactly what he’d expect from a hero school exam.

But what really caught his attention was the fourth type of Opponent—an enormous bot worth zero points.

A distraction? A trap?

His mind latched onto the number.

Zero Points. OP. Overpowered.

...Yeah. He was probably overthinking again.

Still, he felt confident in his preparation. He’d chosen a manga with the perfect character on the cover for this very situation—and his second volume added plenty of versatility through a wide cast of characters.

He was ready and fully prepared to rock this.

Fortunately, students from the same school were split into different testing zones. While likely done to prevent friends from teaming up, a risk he wasn’t under, Izuku was grateful for an entirely different reason.

No Bakugo. No distractions. No explosions aimed at his face.

If they’d been in the same zone, the other boy would’ve either competed with him like a mad dog… or worse, tried to take him down mid-exam just to feed his inferiority complex.

And Izuku wasn’t ready to go head-to-head with him yet.

Not because he couldn’t. It would just not be as effective for his revenge.

Better to pass first. Let him get mad on how he did it.

After the orientation wrapped up, the examinees were loaded onto buses and taken to their designated fields.

For a moment, Izuku thought he wouldn’t recognize anyone in his group—until a familiar head of auburn hair caught his eye.

‘Uraraka.’

She stood near the edge, eyes wide with nervous energy. He smiled.

‘Maybe I can help settle her nerves a bit—‘

But just as he stepped forward, a hand landed firmly on his shoulder.

He froze.

Turning slightly, he looked up into a sharp, square-jawed face framed by neatly combed hair and rectangular glasses. The boy’s eyes were narrowed in disapproval. And more strikingly—each of his calves bore powerful mechanical engines, complete with six exhaust pipes per leg, arranged in two vertical rows.

A speed-based Quirk for sure.

Izuku immediately thought of the Turbo Hero, Ingenium.

‘Could they be related...?’

He blinked, confused. What did he do?

Then it hit him—he recognized this guy. He’d been the one to interrupt Present Mic’s explanation earlier with that uptight question about the zero-point robot. Not even letting the Pro Hero get that far with his Explanation.

Now he was here. Staring at him like Izuku had just committed a felony. Just what was that guys Problem?

“This girl looks like she’s focused on preparing for the exam,” the boy said sharply, his tone as rigid as his posture. “Are you trying to distract her? Or perhaps… the other serious candidates? Are you a plant? Sent by the school to throw us off?”

Izuku stared at him, dumbfounded.

‘Is this guy for real?’

He sighed. The guy was clearly serious, but Izuku wasn’t about to be intimidated.

“Are you an idiot?” he replied flatly. “You know nothing about me! Who are you to decide what my intentions are?”

He gestured vaguely.

“To me, you look like the one causing a distraction. She’s a friend. I was going to encourage her. Now take your hand off me, Buzzkill-Ingenium, or I’ll do it for you.”

His fingers were already resting on a specific page of the manga he’d prepped for a great Exam start—he was ready to activate it if things escalated.

“Buzzkill-Ingenium—?!” The taller boy recoiled as if he’d been slapped, quickly removing his hand. His glare faltered. He looked… flustered.

Probably just nervous, but Izuku wasn’t about to sympathize.

You grab someone and accuse them without context? You deserve a little verbal smackdown.

Annoyed, Izuku turned away without another word. Whatever the guy had to say next, he didn’t care.

He refocused on Uraraka—

—but didn’t make it far.

Too late. They already run out of time before the Exam.

A burst of static rang from the speakers.

“AND START!!”, Present Mic’s voice roared across the testing field.

Izuku didn’t hesitate.

In an instant, blue flames erupted across his body. His Quirk copying the power from his manga Page the moment his index and middle Finger touched the Character. The Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix. Marco’s mythical Zoan fruit.

The perfect mobility tool.

He’d chosen a Wano Arc volume of One Piece specifically for Marco’s appearance and the several powerful Characters on the Cover. As the flames spread, wings of pure fire exploded from his arms. His feet transformed into clawed talons, his body partially shifting into its Phoenix-human hybrid form.

Gasps erupted all around him, but Izuku was already airborne.

His hand had left the Manga in his Pocket—his timer had begun.

Grinning mischievously, he dove low over the crowd toward a certain brunette.

“Hey, Uraraka-san! Let’s go! I’ll give you a lift!”

“Midoriya!?” she yelped, startled, as he grabbed her gently by the shoulders with his talons.

With a powerful flap of his blazing wings, they soared into the air together—rising high above the mock city while the other examinees could only stare in shock.

Present Mic’s voice boomed behind them.

“What are you all waiting for?! There are no countdowns in the real world! The little listeners have the right idea—GO, GO, GO!!”

Izuku heard the frantic scramble behind them as the rest of the Examinees finally sprang into action.

By the time they reached the first wave of villain bots, he gently dropped Uraraka close to them, having granted her already a massive headstart.

“Good luck, Uraraka!”

“Thank you!” she called back, slapping her hand against a bot’s head.

Meanwhile he soared towards a Group of Robots further away, who noticed him as soon as he was in range.

“Target acquired. Eliminate the meatbag.”

Izuku didn’t let it finish. He crashed down with a Haki-enhanced kick, crushing the robot’s skull into the pavement. His Nen was in Ren, enhancing his overall physical Abilities both power systems overlapping.

“You guys have a great sense of humor,” he muttered with a grin, launching a blue-flame projectile to scatter the others. While the flames of the Phoenix Fruit lacked heat, they hit with enough physical force to clear a path.

His hand reached into his pocket once more—One Piece Volume 103.

Two fingers tapped the bottom right corner of the cover.

The flames around him vanished.

Time for the next Step.

“Let’s see how you handle someone who’s literally your weakness,” Izuku smirked, raising his hand.

“Attract.”

The remaining bots screeched as their metal limbs twisted and bent—before being ripped apart entirely, their parts pulled violently toward Izuku by sheer magnetic force.

He already spotted another group approaching.

“Repel.”

The swirling debris shot outward like cannon fire, crashing through the next wave with brutal efficiency.

Shards rained around him.

“Hmm… How many points was that?” he muttered, scanning the wreckage. “Three-pointers, a couple twos… a handful of ones… Probably more than twenty. Let’s lowball it for now.”

Eustass Kid’s Jiki Jiki no Mi. Devastating against machines or anything metallic. But…

“Mobility still sucks,” he grumbled.

Reaching into his pocket again, he brushed his two fingers across another character.

“I need a lot more Points.”

< U.A Exam Observation Room >

“What the hell is this kid’s Quirk!?”

Midnight’s voice rang out from the observation room, her usually sultry tone edged with pure disbelief as she stared at the monitor in front of her. “First, he’s flying around like some kind of firebird—like a damn phoenix. What is that? Endeavor and Hawks had a baby!?”

“Then suddenly—bam! He’s manipulating metal like a living electromagnet,” Cementoss added, eyes wide behind his visor. He leaned forward, squinting at the footage.

“Magnetism? Seriously? How does that even connect?”

“Wait, wait—he’s changing again.”

Vlad King pointed at the screen, his brow furrowing. “Is he stretching? What the—are his arms elongating now? Why’s he grabbing onto that—?!”

Before any of them could blink, the green-haired examinee—Midoriya Izuku—launched himself through the air like a rocket, slingshotting off the edge of a building and soaring across the urban training field of Exam Ground B.

“He’s flying again!” Midnight gasped, her blush deepening as she watched the incredible display of power. “He’s like a human fireworks show!”

All eyes in the observation room followed the screen in stunned silence. That was—until a skeletal figure coughed lightly in the corner.

‘That boy… That’s the one I saved from the sludge villain…’

All Might, in his emaciated form, watched the screen with a mixture of awe and suspicion.

‘Just what is going on? I never asked him what his Quirk was back then, but this—this isn’t normal. It looks like he has multiple Quirks...’

A dark thought crept into his mind.

‘Could he… Could that bastard actually have a child out there? Or a descendant who awakened something similar? No, I would have heard about it… But still—’

His fists clenched behind his back.

‘I’ll have to keep a close eye on this one… very close.’

Down on the screen, Izuku had landed in a controlled crouch, his palm raised—and with a magnetic pull, he dismantled another group of villain bots like they were made of scrap paper. His control over the metal was terrifyingly precise. The bots collapsed in an instant, torn apart without effort.

“That’s it. I need to know,” Cementoss finally said, his head whipping toward the small creature standing at the back of the room. “What exactly is his Quirk? What did he register with? Does he have more than one?”

His gaze fell on Nezu, the highly intelligent, mouse-bear-dog Principal of U.A., who stood serenely by a console, sipping tea and watching the screen with the gleam of a scholar admiring fine art.

“You must have known something,” Thirteen added her voice slightly disorted trough her Suit, “You don’t calibrate an entire screen just for one examinee unless you’re expecting something out of the ordinary.”

Nezu’s eyes never left the monitor.

“Oh, his paperwork was very interesting,” he replied with an amused tone. “The Quirk he listed… quite fascinating. How could I possibly miss something so promising?”

“You’re saying… he really only registered one Quirk?”

All Might stepped forward, eyebrows rising in disbelief. “Just one?”

Nezu turned slightly toward him, his round black eyes blinking once.

“Of course. Why? Did you expect something else, All Might?”

“N-No, I—uh…”

Toshinori scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. “It’s just that… he’s displaying so many different abilities. It caught me off guard.”

“Hmm~” Nezu chuckled knowingly, his small paw dancing over the keyboard. “Well, perhaps it’s best if I show you exactly what support items Mr. Midoriya brought with him today.”

With a few swift keystrokes, a second screen lit up, displaying two familiar images. The covers of two manga volumes—clearly worn from use—popped into view.

“Eh? Are those… manga?” Midnight tilted her head, confused.

“They are,” Nezu confirmed. “It appears Mr. Midoriya carries them in his pocket. He hasn’t used the one on the left yet, but the one on the right… oh yes, quite useful.”

He tapped the screen again, zooming in on the One Piece volume.

“As you can see,” Nezu began, sounding positively gleeful, “the characters featured on this particular cover are rather… distinctive. That red-haired fellow? He manipulates magnetism. The white-haired one above him—his body stretches like rubber. And one of the characters inside this very volume possesses the ability to transform into a phoenix.”

The room went still.

“You’re joking.”

Midnight stared, slack-jawed.

“I assure you, I am not.” Nezu beamed. “Young Midoriya’s Quirk allows him to manifest abilities from the fiction he’s physically connected to. At least that’s what I assume. He kept the description in his Quirk registry quite vague. In this case, from manga he carries. The versatility is staggering.”

The small principal sipped his tea, looking more excited than ever.

“It may very well be one of the most potentially powerful Quirks in the entire world.”

From the back of the room, a low chuckle echoed.

“Power Loader,” Nezu called, setting his cup down with a soft clink, “I believe it’s about that time.”

“Yes, sir!”

The orange-clad support course specialist stepped forward, flipping open a plastic casing to reveal a large red button.

“Let’s see how the examinees handle a proper challenge,” he grinned. “Ready or not, kids… here they come.”

With a decisive motion, his fist slammed onto the button.

A loud rumbling echoed across all the testing fields.

The earth trembled.

On the monitors, enormous shadows began to rise behind buildings. Students froze mid-action, heads snapping toward the sound. Eyes widened.

“Let’s see how young Midoriya handles this next phase,” Nezu said, his smile growing ever wider.

“After all…”

He tapped the label next to the examinee’s registered Quirk on the screen.

“‘All Fiction’ ...It’s quite the name, wouldn’t you agree?”

———

< Exam Site B >

“The exam’s probably wrapping up,” Izuku muttered, gliding through the air on blue flames from the Phoenix Fruit. His sharp eyes scanned the area for any remaining villain bots.

Then he saw it.

The Zero Pointer.

It towered over the buildings, each step crushing roads and structures as it boxed in the fleeing examinees.

“Definitely OP... They’re not holding back with the Exam. How can they even afford that? Right they got Cementoss—guy probably saves them a fortune on repairs.”

From above, Izuku spotted a group of villain bots near the main street—the same ones he’d skipped earlier due to the crowd. But now, with most examinees fleeing from the Zero Pointer, those bots were still untouched.

“No use bothering with the giant if it doesn’t give points. Better to clear these out while I can.” With that, he angled downward to strike.

Then he heard it.

“Owww!”

The voice cut through the chaos like a blade.

He recognized it immediately. Ochaco.

Without thinking, Izuku whipped his head toward the sound. She was pinned under debris—chunks of concrete burying her legs. She was face-down, arms stretched forward, unable to touch the rubble to use her Quirk and free herself by removing the Rubles Gravity.

None of the other examinees helped. They were already running from the Zero Pointer, completely ignoring her.

‘This is what passes for hero candidates?’ Izuku thought, disgusted. ‘Panicking at the first real threat?’

Flapping his flaming blue wings Izuku shot toward her without hesitation.

Marco’s Phoenix Devil Fruit wouldn’t be enough to deal with the Zero Pointer, not directly. The strength of his Copied Powers still relied on his base physical ability, and going up against something that size with pure force would be reckless.

Especially on his current Level. Sure he wasn’t weak, at the same time he couldn’t compare to someone with a Strength Quirk.

He ran through his options.

Kid’s Magnet Fruit? Too much steel flying around—she could get caught in it.

Luffy’s Nika form? Powerful, but too wild. The Colleteral cold also hurt her.

Kaidou’s Azure Dragon? The raw output and size might collapse the surroundings buildings further and endanger Ochaco.

In his other pocket, he had the Hunter x Hunter volume from the Yorknew arc. The Phantom Troupe had a lot of firepower, but none of them offered a clean way to neutralize a giant robot and rescue someone pinned under rubble.

Maybe Shizuku and her vacuum, Blinky? But even that was a gamble. Could it even suck up something that huge?

No. Too risky.

Only one option made sense. One that bypassed everything—but also one he hadn’t planned to reveal openly. Hopefully the other Examinee’s wouldn’t pay too much attention to what he did.

Still, Ochaco’s life came first.

Mid-flight, Izuku pulled the One Piece manga from his pocket. As he focused his Quirk, the cover began to ripple like liquid.

He descended quickly, landing a few meters from where she was trapped.

Yes, he’d broken the soft-lock on summoning items. Or rather, his Quirk had done it on its own. Well it simply did what it did.

He plunged his hand into the cover, right at the image of Trafalgar D. Water Law. From it, he pulled Kikoku, the nodachi used by Law himself. Then, with two fingers pressed to the image, he copied Law’s Power.

The manga slipped from his hand as his Palm turned upwards. Ready to use the Ope Ope no Mi properly.

“Room.”

A bluish transparent sphere expanded outward, covering both Ochaco and the Zero Pointer. At once, Izuku felt the drain—Law’s Devil Fruit wasn’t cheap on Stamina consumption, especially at this scale.

He didn’t have long.

Gesturing with his outstretched index, middle and thumb fingers, while holding his palm inwards Izuku called out “Shambles!”

Ochaco vanished from the rubble and reappeared beside him, switched with a nearby stone.

“W-What?” she blinked in confusion.

He didn’t answer.

Gripping Kikoku, Izuku slashed upward.

The Zero Pointer was cut clean in half.

All across the test field, examinees and observers stared in shock.

He wasn’t done.

Izuku raised a finger.

“Takt.”

The robot’s two massive halves lifted into the air. With a flick of his hand, he sent them crashing down—far away from where he and Ochaco stood.

He exhaled, wiping sweat from his forehead.

“That was close.”

Beside him, Ochaco stared wide-eyed. “How...?”

Izuku glanced her way, still catching his breath. “Later.”
