Art tip of the day:

#7 Use photography to understand light

Do you know that there are specific and very effective lighting schemes, that photographers use in their studios? A dramatic rim-light catching flowing hairs on models head? A diffused light source to make the subject look young and sweet? Harsh shadows, bounced light, various placements and numbers of sources are all tools in their toolbox, that they use to create an expressive shot. You can learn their tricks and recreate them in you drawings to achieve similar effects. Try digging deeper then just using a reference, find lighting placement schemes, watch a couple of "the making of" videos, and this will give you a better understanding of how the light works and how to use it to your advantage!
