House S7E20

Comments

I think the potential answers to this question of why the House character is now like this, are likely multifaceted. I think..... that the show is just a victim of it's own success in some ways. Going on too long, probably. Milking the poppy, if you pardon the intentional symbolism of the point I'm intending to make. The ongoing tendency to want to use the skills of its lead actor to display traits that have been well established. If Hugh wasn't so innately skilled at delivering this sardonic, almost caricature part. We wouldn't be seeing so much of it. Perhaps the show wouldn't have had as many seasons, who knows. He's a writer's plaything by this point. The situation is driving the story, more than the character is a lot of time. What can we have him do next? So it begins to feel disproportionate as he repeats these patterns of self-distruction. Perhaps as they delay the enviable conclusion for another season. All shows come to an end. Unless the lead character regenerates of course. Then we fall back on the true and overly convenient traits of a addict. They are self-distructive and use those around them. Fuelled by their enablers. This doesn't answer the whole picture of his cycle of behaviour. He wasn't always a drug addict. But he was likely always an addict. He does also exhibit traits of a person with a antisocial personality disorder. Only exacerbated by his self-distructive addictional related behaviours. Let's also not forget that he partly modeled on Sherlock Holmes. They are making the puppet dance on this repeat cycle for as long as the show is commissioned. This will be based on, for as long as his antics are entertaining. So I agree. It's not what it was in the beginning. Because, maintaining that level for a less shockable audience jonesing for their weekly fix, gets harder. The patient was lying on the floor as House lies in their bed. The characters don't react, and how many of us aren't phased enough either. This speaks for itself, doesn't it.

Death Lego

The sick guy is played by Donal Logue, who played a great supporting role in Blade, one of my favorite movies. You've seen it, right?

That's exactly who House is. It's not about the patient, it's about solving the puzzle.
