Cities: Skylines Review Release & June 2023 Update

Hey everyone, first things first, I got a new video up for your viewing pleasure uncut and uncensored:

https://youtu.be/clogp6Azkp0

Not to say this video was very vulgar or anything. I’m experimenting with keeping some outtakes that will be getting cut in the final release. Going forward I might be slipping in bonus bits and clips into the patron version: a director’s cut, if you will. Just something to add a little more value to early access videos.

I was hoping to have this video done over two weeks ago but I wound up doing some major changes to the script right before I started doing the voice over and things kinda went off from there. All in all, though, this was probably the closest I’ve ever gotten to an originally-planned release window as I’ve ever gotten with a project.

This was something very experimental for the channel. I want to cover more games like this in the future (I think Rimworld is a perfect candidate for the sorts of videos I want to make.) A lot of this project was just learning how I could make videos on smaller strategy games in the future and I definitely learned a lot from this one, usually the hard way.

I spent 120 hours recording footage + 10 hours of livestreams and that turned out to be way too much. This is the first project where I can safely say there’s such a thing as too much footage. All that footage made editing pretty much a nightmare, but seeing as the video is a short one, editing only took 34 hours, and writing went pretty smooth at 53 hours. 230 hours total on a project this long is way too much, but half of that was spent playing because I didn’t plan the playthroughs well at all. That’s something that can be corrected in the future and would likely cut down on production time across the board.

When I’ll be able to cover something not-Bethesda is up in the air because now that we’re halfway into the year, the rest of my production schedule is looking more concrete.

First we got Skyrim Part 3. I’ll be rolling into serious writing for that project immediately. It’s gonna be a sprint because I want that video out mid-to-late September. Originally I was aiming for August but with it being July in a day, that ain’t happening. It’s likely anything Bethesda is going to get a lift with Starfield and that game might lend itself to second monitor content while waiting for loading screens and scanning rocks on remote planets. A chunky Skyrim video might be just what some people will want.

Almost all the recording is done for Skyrim part 3 so I’m really just going from one script to the next which is great because that keeps momentum going. It should be a very straight-forward script so I’m not anticipating any serious road blocks there. As for editing, I got everything very well organized and ready to go. I also suspect this video will be shorter than the previous two parts by virtue of the fact that I’m only going to be talking about stealth mechanics and skills, the Thieves Guild, the Dark Brotherhood, and all the remaining Daedra quests. That last bit could get a little hairy but it should be fine.

The only other thing that’s a definite for this year is a video on Starfield. The goal is to have that out in time to reap the boosted ad revenue during the holiday season. I won’t know how that video is really going to look until I play the game, but I already have some ideas. The smoother I can make that production, the better, so I’m trying to do everything I can to prep for it. Needless to say, that will not be a massive Deconstructed project, just a “shorter” more focused review.

Stretch goal is to sneak one more video in this year and that’s the Oblivion fixed with mods video I’ve been teasing for over a year now. I want to continue doing semi-regular livestreams because they’ve absolutely been helping the channel. So I was thinking a summer of Oblivion streams where I’m playing the modpack and collecting footage for that video. I think those would be some fun streams people would enjoy and it allows me to double-up on work. But Skyrim takes priority, if I gotta backburner Oblivion to grind out Skyrim that’s what I’ll do. Like I said, stretch goal.

That’s really all I got time in the year for. I’m looking forward to 2024 which will hopefully feature less Bethesda and more projects that will let me get more creative. The finale for skyrim will be a 2024 project, but other than that, I’m not committing to anything else this far out.

Anyways, enjoy the new video, and as always, I appreciate the support <3

Awesome video, I'll have to check in on those streams. I caught the most recent but that one got cut short. I love the idea of you switching up your videos, I think a RimWorld one would be awesome

It’s nice to get numbers on how long these vids take to make. Look forward to watching it
