Vilous | On the Red Tattoo in Shigu [Pre-reading the Raw Concept]

ABOUT THE RED TATTOO

"Rain mark", it is one traditonal culture of Northern land.

This looks like pointed red tattoo. Traditionally it is done using Talyxian plant called "fire mandrake". if cutting this plant overflows the strong acidic-like liquid. people press it against the skin from their fur, that part will burn and  red color will remain like a tattoo. At that time it has terrible pain like burning the body runs and pain remains for months.

Rain marks are traditionally limited to "very simple things". There is no complicated pattern like a tribal pattern.  since they need do it with their own hands without Agudner. (Northern land had not many Agudners)

the history of this curture has roughly 3 eras.

1: Northern Brave clan put in.

2: Shigu's symbol of Rain.

3: Modern Shigu's symbol of Raine religion.

Rain mark was originally called Wolf mark and the Braves of Brave clan do it. they had inspiration of wild Talyxian associators (wolves)cutting down woods and got the tree bloods on the miasma forest. 

Rain, who was with Zyn, also put this tattoo under her eyes.

Later when Rain unified all Shigu, "Wolf mark" became known more as her symbol "Rain mark" with yellow eyes. And those faithful to Dear Rain put that mark in their bodies (not everyone did).

Even after Rain left Shigu, Rain faith overwrite to wolf and forest faith already, and it remained as a custom of Shigu people. However, because the pain of fire mandrake is so huge, modern people seem to substitute Agudner's tattoo technique imported from the south in many cases.

This culture is not seen at all in Reono and GR. It can be said that it is exactly the northern tradition.

About other tattoo culture

hair dyeing and tattoo culture is  very common to other area. Especially in eastern and southern part, there are many tattoo cultures for Agudner and Sergal.

Many design can be complicated , such as design from plants and word/character.

赤い刺青について

北部の伝統様式の一つに「Rain mark」があります。

これは、「身体のどこかに赤い刺青を入れる」というもので

伝統的に「火吹き草」(fire mandrake)と呼ばれるTalyxian plantを使って行われます。

実際に火を噴くわけではありませんが、この植物を切断すると、強い酸のような液体があふれ出します。

それを毛皮の上から皮膚に押しつけると、その部分が焼け爛れ、赤い色が刺青のように残ります。

その時には身体を焼くような激痛が走り、数ヶ月は痛みが残ると言います。

Rain markは伝統的に「非常にシンプルなもの」に限られます。トライバルのような複雑な模様はありません。これは、Northern landにはAgudnerがあまり居なかったため、Sergalたちが自分自身の手で行うしかなかったことに起因しています。

さて、このマークに関する歴史は、大きく分けて3つの時代を持っています。

1:Northern Brave clanの勇者達が入れていたもの。

2:Rain Shiguの、Rainのシンボル。

3:Modern Shiguの、レイン宗教のシンボル。

Rain markは、もともとWolf markと呼ばれており、Brave clanの勇者達が、返り血を浴びながら森の樹を切り倒していく狼をイメージしたものでした。Zynと共にあったRainも、Brave clanであるように、目の下にこの刺青を入れていました。

後にRainがBrave clanの垣根を越え、Shiguを統一した時、"Wolf mark"は、黄色い目と共に、もっぱら彼女のシンボル"Rain mark"として知られるようになりました。そして、親愛なるRainに忠実な人々は、そのマークを自分の体に入れました（全ての人が行ったわけでは有りません）。

彼女がShiguを去った後も、Rain信仰は狼・森信仰を上書きするように根強く残り、Shiguの人々の風習として残り続けました。しかし、fire mandrakeの苦痛が余りに大きいので、modern peopleは、南部から輸入したAgudnerのタトゥ技術で代用することが多いようです。

この風習は、ReonoやGRには全く見られません。まさに北部の伝統といってよいでしょう。

その他のタトゥ文化について

詳しくはいずれ染髪・刺青の文化で解説しますが、地域に関わらず存在しています。特に東部・南部では、アグドナやサーガルのためのタトゥ文化が多くあります。デザインも複雑なものが多く、文字から植物の意匠など、様々です。
アグドナの場合、自分の職業に関わる意味あいのものが多いようです。

刺青師の他に、染髪や、角や蹄への彫刻、歯の治療などを行う職業があり、これらは同じカテゴリの職業として扱われます。
