Vilous | Eltus children In-depth Lore - Nevreans [Pre-reading the Raw Concept]

Hello Vilous fans! I apologize for the delay in this posting. The translation process took an extra long time due to the complexity of Japanese to English and the amount of lore. I hope you enjoy the extra information that was included! 

For this week's patreon update I am delighted to bring you information regarding Nevrean children! 

This week's Patreon update have featured in-depth information regarding Eltus children life cycles.  For the final one, featuring Nevreans!

How to identify children's gender - Native Nevreans case:
All nevrean offspring are born with a gray and fluffy coat regardless of their gender, a common feature shared by all Eltus races. There is very little difference apparent between genders, either physically or in personality prior to puberty. Therefore Nevrean childen can't distinguish their gender from other people and even themselves, but native nevrean people who live in Nevrea areas can identify it with their traditional skill. Native nevrean parents know their own children's gender at all time, and Judda person know gender of all people who live in his village as citizens. Parents can 'talk' with their own child from inside the egg during incubation. During that time, they can hear the child's gender, personality, and what hope that child for his(or her) life - it can be  symbolized as the 'blue print' of that child. Then, parents will go to report this information to the Judda. This type of duty is mainly a female parent (mother)'s role. Also the Judda in the Nevrea culture works closely on the management, population adjustment and the roles of casting on their opera.

How to identify children's gender - Urban Nevreans case:
However in the case of urban nevreans of the new generation, they already have lost those traditional skills due to social and cultural differences in environment. Nevrean needs a long incubation time. Often, the eggs of urban Nevrean caring by babysitters or great mothers from collective child home. Certain Nevreans can not continue to face the same egg for a long time, and of course for Agudner and Sergal, this is an unknown thing, it was not known. Thus the skills to know the characteristics of the child have been lost. So urban nevreans, like GoldRing citizens, don't know their true gender even if it's themselves and one's parents, until reaching puberty.

Common features of nevrean children:
Nevrean childred posess some differences from other eltus children for their traits and physical constitution, like the nature of their fur and the ability to walk on two legs in a considerably early stage. If anything, all nevrean choldren show nature akin to male nevreans, regardless of gender. During puberty, their sexual characteristics begin to emerge and become obvious. Males begin to show their true colors and females begin to show big changes to their body shapes and physical constitution. The most noticeable feature that is common to both genders is that they can learn and use languages at a very early stage compared to other races. They are also able to grasp foreign languages very easily. The caveat to their linguistic prowess, however, is that they have a comparatively slow development of their own ego.

Immediately after birth:
See the upper image. Nevrean babies already attempt to communicate with surrounding individuals from inside the egg via their cry. Eggs will hatch in 7 to 8 months after egg-laying with incubation. Eggs are taken care of mainly by females. Due to native nevreans and their long life span, widow females will sometimes help the other female's egg incubation. Sometimes even males will assist with this if there's a shortage or only male-female couples present in small groups. Babies will cry loud immediately after birth, but they can't open their eyes for a while after birth, keeping quiet and not moving within their nest.

Two weeks after birth:
They are able to open their eyes and even start to walk on their own two legs, but they tend to be reckless, thus they are brought back to their nests by their parents if anything happens or they stray too far. They are fairly energetic and talkative, they begin to imitate various sounds like adult nevrean's speeches and surrounding sounds.

Several months after birth:
They are able to run around. They start to show strong interest to every type of sound. They will try to copy almost all sounds like speeches, environmental and try to imitate them with their cries again and again. Even though they do not understand what those sounds mean. They are still very energetic and keep from talking without considering their surroundings, so, sometimes there's a case they they can accidentally cause trouble towards children of other race and their parents in GoldRing tenement houses.

One year after birth:
See the bottom image. Unlike other Eltus children, they still maintain gray across their whole body whilst starting to grow out partial black feathers that will be kept all the way to adulthood. They still prefer to use language as well as begin to require interaction and reply from other people in order to form a proper conversation. However, they still do not understand perfectly and in depth what it means to use words whilst attempting to expand their vocabulary. Unlike agudners, they seek each other's 'response' for a surprise and curiosity rather than communicating for friendship or affection. Nevrean children alone could talk to one another for an eternity without it being meaningful in any way.

Two year afters birth:
They suddenly lose the interest to imitate and begin to sing a song instead of imitation. In most cases, they can sing something even if they have never learned of existing songs. In native nevreans culture, adult males will pose as model singers for boys to begin training in song during this period. Girls do not get such teachers, but girls will sing freely for their own personal fun. Some of them begin to notice their true gender and the difference in sex. In Gold Ring's case there is no such difference in education for gender.

Three - six years after birth:
They finally begin to understand each word's full meaning and proper situational usage, like the purpose of a greeting, for example. They begin to use words to tell their true intentions. All the while they still maintain communication in order to share fun things in playful tones in most of the cases. In native nevreans culture, boys will learn many form of songs that are systematized. Meanwhile, girls still maintain freedom, so they will enthusiastically play using their own bodies during insect catching, with primitive songs. Flight feathers will begin to grow on both genders, then they begin to be able to fly, and will become increasingly eager to sing and play by flying, regardless of gender. In GoldRing's case, they received labels like "They're great when they use their words and all, but their intentions reflect poorly upon them because they all tend to behave the same way, play the same way and use the same words!" much to the chagrin of native GoldRing races, this nature gave the ladies of tenement houses a lot of confusion.

Seven - ten years after birth:
In native nevreans culture, they each have been told their true gender from the elderly people present during the period in which they begin to grow adult feathers and they perform adult ceremony. Females will continue to gain bone, talons, beak and muscle mass, become increasingly heavy and their flight feathers will eventually fall off naturally, never to regrow new ones since they will no longer be usable for flight. Every native female cuts off their last flight feathers as a coming of age rite, the rite will have been finished by making an arrow with those flight feathers. After that, all females wear a mask, and fully join the ranks of existing adult females. Adult females vocal cord structure will change, then they become unable to make fine sounds. But due to their childhood experience, they can still identify various sounds and words and understand those deeply.  Males have few differences in physical structure, but they change and regrow their entire plumage to that of beautiful feathers, all at once. They will be given roles for the opera, cast right in front of the Judda, and then they will have been recognized as adult. In Gold Ring’s case, because there's no traditonal Nevrea culture present, both of themselves and GR tenement house ladies were confused by the drastic change in puberty. 

Eventually they will have brought many revolutions within GR over two generations. Many of those urban nevrean children have never been taught their original and traditional culture, as a result they will find and get to invent their own story, spending quite an individual and eccentric lifestyle.

Twelve years after birth:
Nevreans present slow maturation rates in their genitalia, so in most cases, they still can’t reproduce during this period. In native nevrean culture, both males and females are treated as fine adults if they are married.

Twenty years after birth:
Female nevreans keep growing their horns and harden their bones slowly over a long period of time. In some cases there are persons whom still grow those out well after their 30’s.

Supplement:
Nevreans have potentially the longest lifespan out of the three Eltus races, their average age span is 80 years old, sometimes there are even persons whom live up to 100. However male life spans tend to be generally shorter than females, because males exhibit a very poor ability to recover from injuries (due to their frail bodies) compared to the sturdy female ones. Their life span is practically an exception to all three Eltus races, as native nevrean people can and will live longer than urban nevreans.

Tenement houses are one of Gold Ring's most most common abodes. Mostly preferred and used by Sergal/Agudner Joint Families. They share heavy similarities to the traditional Japanese tenement houses and play an important role in Gold Ring's historical and societal development.

ネウリアの子供は産まれたときは灰色であり、雌雄の判別ができない。ネヴリャンの人々は伝統的にそれを判別する技術を持っており、卵と長く向き合う両親、及びその報告を受け人口や演劇の役割管理を行うジュダはそれを知っていたが、ゴールドリングのものからは失われてしまっているため、思春期を迎えるまで周囲も本人も本当の性別を知らない。

ネヴリャン文化では親は抱卵中に卵の中にいる雛と長い会話をする。その時に、その雛の性格や性別、その人生に望んでいることなどの全貌(ブループリントと例えることが出来る)を把握することができる。このようにネウリアは本来長期間の抱卵時間を必要とするが、都市ネウリアの抱卵は多くの場合、個人の場合はベビーシッターが、集合長屋では乳母(Great Mothers)が代行する。特定のネウリアが長時間、同じ卵と向き合いつづけることが難しく、もちろんアグドナ、サーガルにとってもこれは未知のことで、知られていなかったため、子どもの特性を知ることができるスキルは失われていった。

毛の性質や二足歩行をすることなど、他二種族とは形質・体質的に少し離れている。ネウリアは子どものときはどちらかと言うと男性の性質に近い。男性は性成熟に伴ってその色を変え、女性は体形や体質自体が大きく変化する。大きな特徴として、言葉が非常に早い。外国語の習得もとても早い。言葉が先行するぶん、自我の発達が遅い。


生後すぐ：上図。卵の中からすでに周囲のものと鳴き声でコミュニケーションを図ろうとする。産卵から数か月後、抱卵によって産まれる。抱卵は基本的に女性が行う。ネヴリャンのネイティブネウリアは長寿であるので、夫や産卵能力を失った女性が手助けする。産まれてしばらくは目も開かず、巣で小さくなっている。産まれてすぐ大きな声で鳴く。

生後二週間：目も開き、二足歩行で歩き始めるが、無鉄砲な傾向があるため、すぐに巣に連れ戻される。非常に元気でよくしゃべり、大人の言葉や周囲の音を真似しはじめる。

生後数か月：走り回ることができる。音に強い関心を持ち、言葉・環境音などほとんどの音をコピーし、繰り返す。意味などは分かっていない。元気で、一方的に話しつづけるので、ゴールドリングの長屋では他の子どもや親に迷惑をかけることもある。

生後一年：下図。他のエルタスと違い、灰色のままだが、大人になっても残る黒い部分はこの時に生える。相変わらず言葉を好む。他人の返事を求めはじめ、受け答えが上手になるが、多くは言葉だけである。アグドナと違い、ふれあいや愛情のコミュニケーションより、驚きや好奇心への「反応」を求めており、放っておくと子ども同士で永遠に言葉を繰り返し続ける。

生後二年：物まねの関心が急に失われ、歌を歌いはじめる。多くは、教えてもいないのに突然歌い始める。ネイティブの文化では、この時期に男の子にだけ手本となる大人がついて、歌の訓練を始める。女の子は好きな歌を自由に歌う。ここで最初に性別を意識することになるが、たいていはまだ気づいていない。ゴールドリングでは同じように育てられる。

生後三-六年：あいさつなど、言葉のニュアンスや状況を理解し、ようやく自分自身の意図を伝えるものとしての言葉を使い始めるが、まだそのほとんどのやり取りは楽しい遊びの共有に使われる。男の子は体系だった歌の形式を多く学び、その分自由の有る女の子は原始的な歌と共に虫取りや身体を使った遊びに夢中になる。風切り羽が生え、滑空が可能になり、雌雄問わず飛行遊びに興じるようになる。ゴールドリングでは「言葉が達者であるが自分の意思が薄く、皆で同じ遊び・言葉を使いたがる」この点で乳母達に多少の混乱をもたらした。

生後七-十年：ネイティブの文化では、大人の羽が生え始めた段階で彼らは自分の性別を宣告され、成人の儀式を行う。女子は徐々に骨密度が増し、爪やくちばしが大きくなり、筋力が増し、風切り羽が生えなくなる。最後の風切り羽を切り、矢に作り替えることで完了する。その後は仮面を付け、女たちの仲間入りをする。成人の女は声帯の構造が変わり、繊細な音を発音することができなくなるが、幼少時の経験から、音や言葉を聞き分けて深く理解することはできる。男子は身体の構造は子どもとほとんど変わらないが、一度に美しい色の羽に生え変わる。彼らはジュダの面前で演劇の役目を与えられ、これによって成人であると認められる。ゴールドリングでは、ネヴリャンの伝統が失われている為、彼ら自身、そして子どもと友人、乳母達がその変化に戸惑い、二世代にわたってゴールドリングに多くの変化をもたらした。伝統の教えを受けられなかった多くのネウリアの子どもたちは、それぞれが自分自身の物語を見つけ、個性的な人生を送ることになる。

生後十二年：ネウリアは生殖器の成熟が遅いため、この年齢ではまだ子どもが作れない事が多い。ネヴリャンでは、結婚していることで男女とも一人前として扱われる。

生後二十年：女性のネウリアは角や骨の硬さなど、ゆっくり長く成長をしていく。場合によっては、30歳を過ぎても成長していることもある。


また、彼らは三種族の中でもっとも長寿であり、平均で80年、100年以上生きるものもいるということです。男性の方が怪我に対する治癒力が弱いため、短いと言われています、全く例外的に、エルタスの中では、都市部よりもネヴリャンの者のほうが長生きするようです。

長屋について：ゴールドリングに古くから見られる集合住宅で、サーガルとアグドナの乳母が伝統的に子供の世話をする。第二世代の都会ネウリアの子供達はみな卵の段階で長屋の女達に預けられ、ゴールドリングで他種族の子供達と共に育つ。(今後のパトロン更新において詳細説明掲載予定)
