Eltus Rice is a plant native to the brackish water area parts around ColVilous. It has a very strong salt tolerance. People cultivate this rice and grow it widely. As a result, this plant is one of the most well-known companion Eltus plants.
As most Eltus plants do, this one has a Talyxian trait. Rice frogs inhabiting tidal flats are a Talyxian creature with dark bodies and is said to be close to a mollusk type Talyxian. This rice frog and the rice plants share a symbiotic relationship. Most of the Talyxians that live in salted places are quiet, thought to strongly show Eltus traits and are thought to have less genetic instability and this rice frog is no exception.
These rice plants cannot breed alone. Like most Eltus plants on the planet, they have difficulty blossoming and pollinating on Tal earth, they do not have enough strength to germinate properly either. The rice frogs, however, help with this. They blend the falling seeds from the rice plants with their backs and then dive into the tidal mud, lying in wait for months. The rice which these frogs nurse, will grow sufficiently in time.
The strange relationship reveals that they develop red and grotesque "Talyxian genitals", almost akin to a tumor. It closely resembles some of the flora found in Talyxian Forests. With these genitals they can create their own seeds safely. Among these Eltus can spot perfect spherical rice, but there is a small percentage chance that they might be rice frog eggs mixed in between. The frogs also need rice in order to feed their offspring.
Eltus folks might muse amongst one another: "Do you find this egg disgusting?" "No, it is delicious, just like rice!" , However they will not consume it all, leaving part of the rice and returning it to the tidelands in order to help facilitate and repeat the cycle.
This symbiotic relationship between rice and rice frogs is old, and they did not require any special "Hiire" treatment. While they are domesticated animals, they maintain a somewhat semi-wild ecology.
Given that this rice grows only in the brackish water area, it is a highly valuable food for the Eltus, with the exception being Gold Ring, as it it grown locally.
