Now to the other stuff that's kind of important. You might have gotten updates about this from other creators recently. As of July, Patreon will start applying tax to pledges in a bunch of new territories as appropriate to what rewards you get. This was already a thing for the EU but now it will be a thing for the USA too, depending on your state. The amounts depend on where you are and what your region's tax laws require.

Here is a rundown of what gets taxed where.

As far as I can tell, very few states will actually charge tax on any of the rewards I provide.  It isn't common for content polls or for early access to content that will become public later, but I have a responsibility to keep you guys informed. The tiers have been set so you only get charged tax relative to each reward. So if your state charges tax on early access but not content polls, you would only be taxed on the $2 extra you pay for the early access, not the full $5.

On a less "Oh god, not the IRS!" note, I've recently learned $1 is not... Really... Worth doing. To be clear, not because I'm a greedy asshole, but because for donations that low the processing fees take out a whopping third of the donation. That being the case, if you want to contribute but can't stomach the $3 for the poll reward, I'd rather you guys just not donate and save your money. Just know reading and liking my stuff still means a lot to me. If you can help out monetarily, great. If not, that's great too. At no point in this do we need to give credit card companies a handy.

And on a "Hey, Casey has no idea how to make a joke about this" note. With the removal of the $1 tier it has been replaced with a $10 tier. What extra bonus do you get for it? ... Nothing. Right now at least. A warm, fuzzy feeling of supporting me? That said, I would like to make it worthwhile somehow so I'm taking suggestions for what you guys might like as a bonus reward for that tier. Feel free to leave suggestions in the comments.
