I put the turkey baster full of water into the bug tank housing the brunette and redhead, filling the water basin. I then sprinkle some trail mix into the other container for them to eat, I gently pat their heads before closing the lid. I watch as they eye me for a second before rushing to the containers with their resources. They greedily gobble down their food and water, I hum a little tune while checking my banking app. My new job making me a hefty sum over the past week, “You know, I think you guys might actually be lucky!” I continue to hum to myself, happy at the turnout.
The two in the critter cage look up at me as if to survey my thoughts for what might happen next. I tap my fingers rhythmically on the table then reach for another cage, I watch them flinch back as the brunette male hugs the crimson female in the farthest corner from me. I smirk and pull the creature capture device off the table as I get up, walking over to the tiny people’s cage swiftly. I open the lid again and they run as fast as their little legs would carry them to another corner.
I gently reach my hand into the cage I’m carrying, and let the creepy crawly in the encasement make its way into my hand. I pull it out, holding the creature up to the transparent plastic of the cage on my shelving unit. I let the being in my hand observe the cowering couple, it jitters excitedly with their shivering. Every movement they make was watched by many eyes, I drop the hairy creature into the tank and the two scream to the point where I could barely hear a high-pitched ringing.
The tarantula stalks the duo, making sure they stay condensed in their corner. I watch, entertained, as they run around their enclosure attempting to get away from the giant fuzzy spider. The eight-legged creature skitters quickly along the mulched floor of the cage, right when it goes to pounce I whistle catching all of their attention. I grab the spider and put her back in her rightful place before going back to watch the panting couple.
My face takes up a whole side of the bug cage and they crawl backwards away from me, their terror brings me joy as a smile adorns my features. I pluck the vermillion girl from the cage, the guy jumping sluggishly to reach her, presumably to pull her from my grasp. “I’m thinking of trying something new~” I purr and quickly whisk her away, “no more spiders or centipedes will chase you Red.” I smile at her and she gives me a look of distrust, pausing her struggle against my enclosed fist around her small frame. I walk over to my front door, “Wanna go outside for a bit?” Her eyes widen at the sound of fresh air and sunlight, she nods eagerly.
“We’re gonna go for a bit of a walk, how do you feel about going to the mall?” She throws her hands together, fingers interlaced in front of her face as she nods more vigorously. “How do you like these shoes?” I ask, holding up a pair of black sneakers. She tilts her head in confusion, probably not understanding the question. “I have to hide you somehow, I can’t have someone kill you before me! Then they’d get the luck!”
She recoils, looking like she switched her prayers to pleading. I gently drop her into the shoe and tilt it to roll her down to the toes, watching her stumble, tumbling all over herself on the way down. I put both shoes on the ground, quickly slipping on my left shoe with ease before slowly pulling my right one as to not harm my newest pet.
Once my shoe is on, I can feel her struggle against the sock under my toes to break free. “You can run around freely in there, but don’t you DARE think about escaping because I highly doubt you want to be scooped up by a bird and torn to pieces.” I feel the moving cease, I assume this means she understands and I nod, “Alright, off to the mall we go!” I rush to get out of the door, locking it behind me, then speed walking down the street.
I pause for a brief moment a few blocks down, “How are you feeling in there? The constant jostling must not feel very nice huh? Oh well, we’re almost there.” I give her hope that I might care about her well-being while I feel her travelling around the shoe, navigating my foot in the dark. Once I get to the mall I go into a doll dress-up store, taking her out I get her to try on many outfits for my own amusement, though I think she’s having fun herself.
When I’ve had enough of her smiling I put my shoe on the table, motioning for her to crawl back in. She doesn’t put up a fight, probably trusting me at this point. I laugh to myself at her lowered guard while slipping my foot back into the sneaker. I walk around the mall for a while, teasing the tiny woman in my shoe by applying pressure to her randomly. I can only imagine her face when I trap her legs under my heel or catch her with my toes. I can imagine her ducking for cover under the arch of my foot that’s at LEAST six times the size of her.
I can feel her crawling underneath my toes in the safe spot between them and the ball of my foot. At least that’s what I believe she thinks, I scrunch my toes to remind her that she has nowhere to go. Not a single place she could travel to is safe, her fate rests in my hands, and mine alone.
I run into someone cute as they ask me for directions, I’m embarrassed all of a sudden, twisting my foot on the ground with my toes. Forgetting why I’m there in the first place as I try to strike up a regular conversation with this newfound person. I can feel this stabbing on my foot, like the little redhead is jabbing her elbow into my skin, kicking, or punching me with all she has. I try to suppress my giggle as my feet are quite ticklish, I try to focus on the person in front of me as the small being in my shoe demands my attention. I start to play with her to try and calm her attacks, I roll my foot on its side, feeling her stumble underneath the arch in my foot.
I put my foot back to its natural position and I can feel that I caught one of her tiny limbs under the side of my foot. I start tapping it on the ground, bouncing her in place as she struggles to pull herself to safety. I can imagine her dragging her body forward along the sole of my shoe as her leg is twisted in ways that it shouldn’t be.
I can hear her cries of pain in my head while I imagine what’s going on in my sneaker, I can see her tear-streaked face as she crawls desperately for any shred of salvation. I smile to myself at the thought, continuing my conversation with the cutie in front of me. I grab the probably sobbing female with my toes as I feel her at the front of my shoe, dragging her back down into the torture against her will. I wiggle my foot around randomly, hitting her over and over again, trying to keep her in place.
I click back into the conversation, “No, sorry, my foot is fine, just something in my shoe.” I smile sweetly and direct my attention forward once again, opting to subtly move my foot instead of the vigorous shaking I was doing a moment ago. I crunch my toes around her a few times, making sure she’s still responsive and I feel her shove against my enclosing toes, I nod my head in acceptance.
I squeeze the small person between my toes, probably suffocating her while I apply more pressure. I suddenly realize why I saved them in the first place, for luck. I WAS planning on eating her in the food court, but this lovely person in front of me has my attention peaked. Eat for money, squish for love and I conveniently have this little person stashed away in my shoe, perfect for squishing without drawing any attention.
I drag the red-headed woman under my foot and drop it on her, feeling her pounding at my flesh relentlessly. I add more and more weight until I felt the pop and warm liquid seeping between my toes. I can imagine the immense amounts of pain she must have been feeling, I wonder just how loud she must have been screaming during her final moments. I wonder what her final thoughts were, who she thought about, but I don’t really care. I just got lucky in love. “Hey, you mind stopping by the shoe store quick? I just stepped in something wet.” I smile politely at my newfound friend.
