Update Postponement

Hey Patreons!

I'm going to postpone today's update until Tuesday. There's two reasons: 1) having lost three days to Tank Fest this weekened, I have to finish Monday's video by today, so I'm desperately trying to get that done in the limited time available. As Chuikov said, "Time is Blood", and if I don't get it finished today it will be the first video missed since New Year, and I can't let that happen! And 2) it makes more sense to give you an update after TankFest, so I can talk about what happened there. So, yeah I apologize for not having an update today, but it does mean I can share some nice photographs and stories on Tuesday.

I will let you know that Monday's video is going to be on Order 227 - Stalin's "Not a Step Back!" order, and it's relation to Stalingrad. Yes, the film Enemy at the Gates will be talked about, but I wanted to look into the history a little more, and talk about aspects of the order that aren't normally discussed. Examples, statistics, and quotes from Stalingrad veterans will be in the video too, as will some questionable quotes from Mr Antony Beevor's Stalingrad book... I will also be discussing Chuikov's "Time is Blood" quote too, since it's usually taken out of context.

Hope all is well with you, and I'll chat to you all on Monday/Tuesday.

Thank you! Wow, you speak several languages? Could you give me any language-learning tips? At the moment I'm especially struggling on German sentence structure. Military History Visualised said to me at TankFest that he does not envy me because learning German as an English speaker is harder than learning English as a German speaker. Not sure if that's true, but I'll go with it :)

I realy like your work. If there is anything I can do to help. My German and Dutch are good enough read/translate documents. My French is good enough to understand audio clips. Italian and Russian are good enough to help with the correct pronunciation of (place) names.

Well, I didn't know that. Such a shame. But I will say, that scene always annoyed me when I was younger. It's arguable at best whether that exchange took place!

John Stride, a famous stage actor and TV star, passed away in April 2018. I mention him because he plays the character based on Lord Carrington in A Bridge Too Far. Moffatt (Redford) confronts him for holding his tanks back and letting his men drink tea. I'm sure some Brits would contest William Goldman's script at this point in the movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1EsDkm_r3o&frags=pl%2Cwn
