Friday Rambles 2023-01-06 (and game progress dump)

It's the first Friday Ramble of the New Year! Wow! Can you believe it? 2023! Wow! Happy New Year!

Anyway I don't know that time is passing because I'm just trying to finish this game that's taken way too long already. Someone asked if I'm going to have a "coming soon" page on Steam so they can wishlist it. Which is great, but a few things are keeping me from launching the page yet (most critical of which is that I haven't thought of a good title for the game yet. ha! ha! ha! Also I don't have enough cool trailer footage or screenshots.

Anyway here are some footage and screenshots.

(there are 7 images/gifs, in case they don't load and you're wondering what the heck I'm talking about)

In any case, I think I'm getting to a point where the game is almost presentable.

So this week I made a bunch of sprites (like all of Whiskey's and Tiger-chan's), animated most of them, finished a bunch of CGs, BGs, and added some polish to the UI, mostly in the choice selection thingie. And with the sprites and most of the BGs and CGs done, I can finally flesh out the dialogue, because having added these it gives everything an entirely different feel than my initial draft. So yeah. It turns out I'm not close to being done at all! Why is the last 20% taking 80% of the time!

So, with the goal of "end of January" in mind, and with the first week of January already dead and gone, I need to um... get everything else done (which turns out is a lot of stuff), think of a title, finish the steam page, all within the second week, and then spend two more weeks adding polish, controller/steamdeck support, and fixing bugs and addressing feedback that I'm sure playtesters will have. Hmm, yeah, this isn't happening, is it? Maybe the goal should be "end of February?" :laughing crying emoji:

At least when I make a Steam page (probably will be up early next week), I'll know how many people wishlist the game so I can uhh "adjust my expectations" based on the numbers. For good or for bad.

Oh yeah, as for what the game is actually about, here’s my initial stab at a Steam Summary: ""Endless Monday: Of Tigers and Deadlines [tentative title]" is a short visual novel about Penny, a corporate grunt who pulls an all-nighter at the office attempting to finish her project on time while overcoming distractions from coworkers, space aliens, imaginary friends, and herself." …Well it’s a work in progress.

If this game ever releases and it actually does well, I want to make a game for each of the Endless Monday Cru, but all in a different genre of game. Maybe less purely narrative based. Skye's Airfryer Microgames! Blythe Survivor! That Roguelike deckbuilder typing game I keep saying I'll make!

Anyway, time to go back to work. Thanks for your support, as always!!
